Looking into a handgun

Not into striker fired handguns so no glock for me, no real reason why just like guns with a hammer. I have shot a 92f a bit because my brother has one but if it were me looking for a new pistola i'd do what others have recommended here already....................A CZ75!:D

I love the 1911, but I have replaced my 5" Colt as my EDC with a CZ75 SP01. You can buy it with a safety and have the option of carrying it hammer down or cocked and locked with the safety on. The gun is stupid controllable, points naturally, has a decent trigger, and very soft recoil. This gun is very easy to shoot well, and shoot well quickly. And it looks sexy to boot!

1911- fastest gun holster to target. If competition were truely about fastest guy gun to target, the 1911 would still reign supreme. Sponsors, changing targets up, reducing the accuracy component are what has allowed other guns in the ring! Also, has best trigger, solid reliability and good ergos. Nice slim feel in the holster.

The Beretta is said to be most accurate, but this does not seem to show up in practical usage with nearly stock guns. Also fat grip and fatter slide.

Glock is nice middle ground, but too many folks with holes in their legs for me to be truely comfortable.

I am biased. I have 5 1911's! I had to sell off Glocks and a Taurus PT101 to get here. Planning to sell off some other 1911's to get what?? Another 1911!

All of this is personal opinion, your options are all fine weapons and would be great choices!

Personally I prefer the 1911 grip angle. I can shoot a Glock, but I prefer the other 1911 grip angle. If you want the external safety, the M&P is a great choice, reliable, affordable, comes in FDE :D A classic or more modern 1911 is also a great choice, you could spend as much as you want there.

When made this decision, I ended up with a Springfield XDm. It has the 1911 grip angle, reliability of a Glock, great comfort and traction on the grip, nice sights, AND it has the grip safety like a 1911 which (FOR ME!) is awesome. That grip safety gives me added confidence, but it doesn't interfere with operation (it isn't a switch you have to flip to fire.)

I'd get a 1911 Colt Commander . The balance is little better and whole lot better sitting down . A 5 " pushes up when I sit the Commander stays put. Very little difference in velocity 4 1/4" verse 5" I have 2 5" 4 Commanders 2 of those LTW version one in 9mm and other 45.

CZs are also great guns. I had a P-01 that I loved but stupidly sold (I've done a lot of bad selling in my lifetime). Once my credit cards are paid off again from the last few guns I've bought at the end of last year I'm considering a Sphinx SDP to scratch the itch that selling my CZ ended up leaving.

With that said, I can't help but notice that CZ is kind of the darling child of handgun forums. I've seen CZ pistols absolutely top popularity polls from time to time here and on other forums but when I talk to gun guys in person at shops and ranges, very few of them have owned CZ pistols or even really considered them. CZ almost seems like a forum hipster pistol to me at this point! Still an excellent firearm, just an observation. There's a definite online cult following behind CZ firearms, but they're really hard to find in some stores because not a lot of people buy them otherwise.

Lots of truth. I think the reason is that CZ's haven't been available all that long, relative to other brands, thanks to the Cold War. As a result, they don't have much of a law enforcement presence in the US which hurts their popularity. In a sense, CZ's are more of an enthusiast's gun. There's a reason they're so popular in competitive shooting.

Regarding a carry gun, I myself am selling a PT111 for money towards a CZ75 Compact or CZP07, haven't decided which. Leaning P07 at the moment. An SR9C is a dark horse candidate as well since I want something for concealed carry.

If you're going to carry, I'd go with the CZ in 9mm. Best compromise of the bunch. Has the manual safety you want. Sleeker, flatter design than the Beretta. More capacity than the 1911, and it gives you a DA/second strike capability.

If you can accept used/not in production guns, the S&W 3rd gen guns are also nice. In particular for carrying, is the 915 or 5905, aluminum frame (lighter) with the same control layout as the Beretta. My 915 has a nice flat side that isn't bulky, and it's shorter than my CZ 75.

Any one of the three options you listed will serve just fine and can be carried easily depending on your holster choice.
Keep in Mind that the 1911 and the Beretta 92 are both 5" barrels while the G17 is slightly shorter so if you are limited to full size options and length is an issue then go for the G17 and make sure to practice/train with it.
If you have the option for different configurations I would recommend looking at the 1911 Commander with an alloy frame, or if you can find it, a Beretta 92C. Both are slightly smaller versions more comparable in size to the G17 and both are arguably easier to conceal than their "full-size" conterparts. But regardess of what you pick make sure to train and become proficient with it. If possible find a local USPSA or IDPA or similar competition/training course.

I personally carry a 1911 commander with an alloy frame most of the time because of the flatter profile and it is what I shoot the best, although my beretta 92C also sees considerable time in the holster as well.

In the end, of the three that you listed any one will serve your purpose effectively, it really comes down to what you shoot best and the time invested in training with it
