Looking for suggestions.

Witness

From EAA web site

You can easily convert your Witness steel or polymer frame pistol to shoot .22 LR, 9x 19mm, 10 mm, .38 Super, .40 S&W, or .45 ACP.

Available in 9mm, 10mm, .38 Super, .40 SW & .45ACP Optional Conversion Kits - .22LR, 9mm, .40SW, .45ACP, 10mm MSRP $472 - $514

I think that you can convert anything to .22, 9 to 40 and vice versa, and super 38, 45 and 10 to anything. not sure about the super 38.

Same thing for the compacts.

I have a steel wonder finish full size 9. Shoots great and always works. I'm trying to find the 22 conversion for this pistol. That's how I want to have some more fun - shoot a whole lot of cheep ammo.

I say get yourself a nice revolver instead of another pistol. They are loads of fun to shoot and are just plain classy. Since you're not looking for a concealed gun, there are plenty of great revolver options out there.

I would reccomend a Ruger Redhawk in 44 Mag or 45colt (my prefered cartridge), or any number of .357's out there if you don't still have the 680. Or go with a .454 to be able to shoot .454's or .45colts. I prefer 3 or 4" barrels on my revolvers.

Or, to go completely off of your norm, pick up a nice single action revolver. They are among my favorite guns to shoot, and handle completely different than any other firearm. Few things are as fun on the range as wearing a Stetson and blasting targets like the folk-heros of yester-year. They are challenging and rewarding to shoot, IMO.

A Sig 226 ( in .40 S&W ) will fit your bill / or a good revolver like a model 19 or 66 S&W ( 4" ) in a K frame .357 mag - are both fun to shoot.

Lots of options out there on Sigs ( .357 Sig / or .40 are your best options, and personally I'm not a big fan of the .357 Sig ). I do like a K frame or N frame S&W in .357 mag ( model 27's or 28's as well ) / the 686 is a nice gun in an L frame .... lots of options on revolvers.

Thanks

Thank you all for your suggestions. I am glad to have narrowed my choices down. I'll be looking at a revolver, EAA Witness, CZ-75, and the Sig. All of them seem to be very close to fulfilling all of my wants, so it'll just be a matter of which one feels best in my hands.

I did see that CZ has a new polymer pistol. I think it is the CZ 75 P-07. It looks very nice, but information seems to be scarce. I know that the CZ 75 and the EAA Witness are pretty close, so I'm familiar with the platform, but I don't know anything at all about this new pistol. It looks huge, although that might just be me overestimating the size due to the trigger guard, which, by any standard, is indeed huge. Does anyone know if this pistol is close to what I'm looking for?

Once again, thanks a bunch. I now have list to try out in hands at the store. Now it's all down to comfort. I appreciate all of your input and will check back regularly for any more suggestions that pop up before I get to the store.

Since you seem to have a lot of familiarity with autos, maybe a revolver will scratch your itch. I have a lot of handguns, both auto and wheelguns. And to be honest, the ones that are probably the most fun and easiest to shoot accurately are S&W Model 10s in 38 Spl or their stainless twin, the Model 64. These are easy to find in good shape at reasonable cost on the used market. Plus, they're highly reliable and ruggedly built.
