looking for opinions on AMT Backup .380

I've got any older single action Backup. It shoots ok never jammed but it shoots only hardball and Win. Silver tips. Also hard on the hand. My safety broke a few years back and I've never fixed it.

I'll sell you mine this way I can buy one of those new Tuarus 38 Spec. in Titinum and Alum. boy is that pistol feather light.

My thought about the AMT is if it's all you got it's better than nothing but if you're buying get something else.

Perhaps I was one of the lucky ones but I had a single action that was great. It shot ball fine and, after some polishing of the feed ramp, HP's too. I had the pinkey lip on the bottom of the mag and recoil was fine as was short range accuracy.
Dont know what to tell you w/ all these bad reports but, if you get a bad one, by the time you pay to have it fixed you could have bought a Colt Mustang. Also, $275 is too much for a used one. Should be $150 to $200.

Good Luck,
Dave

I've had an old single action .380 AMT for nearly 10 years. I can't say I've put more than about 250 rounds through it, but it works reliably with FMJ ammo. Nice, small, and light, too. I've yet to see anything as slim, small, and stainless in .380. I know about the Seecamp, but have never seen the .380 version, except in magazines.

And at the last Gunshow I attended, a used single action AMT Backup went for $180...the same price I bought mine for new.

I have an old SA backup, it has functioned flawlessly for 15 years, but probably only a hundred rounds or so a year. Damn thing is truly a "backup", though. Very uncomfortable to shoot, just doesn't fit the hand very well.
