Looking for caliber suggestions.....

Hmmm, is the Stevens the same jointed bolt and button rifled barrel as a Savage? If so, either would be good. A Savage 12 in a laminate or premium fiberglass stock would be best!

BigMikey76, I'm trying to keep it under $500. Probably going to go to Buds Gun Shop in Lexington, KY(budsgunshop.com) or Gander Mountain up in Dayton Ohio.

223 for sure.

If you do a little shopping you can find a Savage 11FXP4 with a scope for around 500. Better trigger and stock than the Stevens.

Howas are good also could go with a .223 and their .204's are tackdrivers and death on wheels for yotes

A Marlin in 243 would fall in your price range, another good choice

Ruger in 204 or 223

good quality 223 ammo is just as expensive as the 204 or 243 so I would not let the cheap ammo pitch effect my purchase if I were you.

buds has this but it is almost $ 600

Savage 10 10GXP3 .223 Remington with a 3-9x40mm Scope

still you would be good to go with a accurate rifle, a passable scope and even a sling

They have a similar package for the Howa for about the same price

or a Savage 11FCNS in 204 ruger, if you have any doubts on the 204 on coyotes just do a search. Or go to http://www.204ruger.com/ and read some of the threads there. Sweet little cartridge for varmints

I would rather have a Wby Vanguard than a Stevens 200 simply for looks.
The Stevens 200 is a much better choice than the Axis for reasons of aftermarket addons.

With a $500 price range, you can do WAY better than Axis or even the Stevens. I have a Savage 10gxp on order with the scope and sling included for $470 from Bud's... walnut stock, accutrigger, blows the Axis and Stevens away... Mine is in 7mm08, but there are plenty of other deals out there. Bud's and Cheaper Than Dirt both have a fairly wide variety of varmint caliber rifles that are well within that price range, and the selection includes Savage, Marlin, Weatheby, Thompson Center, etc... I can't get on any gun sales sites right now cause I'm at work and they are blocked (darn Big Brother:mad:), but I will post some links when I get home tonight. There is a world of options in the $500.00 and lower range.

Nice choices! I'm still going to stick with a .223 for the price of the ammo...doesn't make any sense to me not to. But you've definitely given me more guns to think about. Any scopes that you guys would suggest? I did check out the two that were listed above, and they seem nice. I just don't like the idea of ordering online without being able to see the scopes and try them in person.
