Looking for another handgun

You might like the Beretta PX4 Storm full size or compact. It's da/sa, ambi safety, in the barrel length you like, plus easy take down for cleaning. I had the compact(not subcompact) in .40 and I really enjoyed it. Also, it has replacable backstraps for all hand sizes.

That may very well be another option for him as well. I have the full size and subcompact models myself and thoroughly enjoy them both. I don't carry the subcompact as much as I thought I would, but it isn't exactly small with exception of OAL (grip width is on par with other double stacks).

The width is why I have no interest in the px4. Also, I cannot find them locally to try before I buy.

Dallasgunsource has the Sig 938 for 679. I have seen them as low as $600 elsewhere. Used are about the same price.

FN's FNX-9 or FNX-40. Ambi safeties, magazine and slide release. 10 or 17 round mags on the 9mm. 4" barrels. The FNX models have external hammers. I just bought an FNS-40, which is the striker fired gun, from Palmetto State Armory at $369. 3 weeks later (last weekend) they had them on sale for $319, but I think that they're out of stock now.

Watch Hickock45's review of the FNS-9 on YouTube. He went crazy over it.

I will have to research the different models a little more and make a consideration.

Do those models have an overly thick/long grip for a single stack handgun?
My apologies, I forgot to include these images along with the other ones I posted for you last night. Several shots front, rear, top, and bottom of a 3913:

You mentioned earlier about your CZ85B, which essentially has a similar grip diameter and thickness to the smaller P-01. Below are some older pictures of the P-01 I used to have next to one of the several P-07's I have owned.

The P-07 has a much narrower grip, and without swapping grip panels on a standard CZ model, I too have (had)a more difficult time reaching the trigger in DA, though I always carry them at the half cock notch (small hands here as well).

Yes the p07 does look to have a much thinner grip. I have been strongly considering picking one up as a bridge between my 85 and my Glock 26.

It's not really for any particular purpose. I'm looking for something that has a 3 or 4 inch barrel. It has to have an ambidextrous safety. Under $600. Hammer fired, preferably single stack.

Any interest in a Star Firestar? It meets your stated requirements.

Hmm. It looks like a commander length 1911, but clunky. Do you have any experience with the Star?

Clunky they ain't ;) http://www.star-firearms.com/firearms/guns/firestar/

Usually smooth as silk from years of careful use.
I prefer my Star M45 over my S&W CS45...simply shoot the M45 slightly better!
but often carry both (Thunderwear/Smartcarry)
with the Star for my right, S&W for my left.

I've got two out of four Firestars, prefer the M45 to the M43,
strictly due to comfort...the M45 fits in my hand better,
the M43 (9mm) is a smaller pistol & I've tried a Hogue slip-on grip,
but haven't found quite the right combo for it yet to make it a better fit.

There's also a double stack 9mm version, the Star M243 Firestar,
& the other Firestar, M40 (.40S&W)
which uses the same frame & slide as the M43,
and this is unusual...the 43 & 40 SHARE mags...you can load
either 9mm or .40 into either mag and they still work equally well!!!
Star came up with an ingenious lip design which allows it!!
The only parts not shared are the recoil springs & barrels...
and in the later model 40's they ended up making the slide heavier
to decrease the effect of .40S&W on the slide stops,
bottom line, the Stars were way ahead of their time!!

So, for those that don't have gorilla hands,
either the Star M43 or M40 would be awesome.
They both have Ambi safety levers as well.

The M205 might also be comfortable, it's the black one above.
it soaks recoil like nothing I've ever run across...
lighter than the M43, but due to the construction its bloody amazing!
comes in 9mm or .40S&W, mine's a .40, which as far as "Felt Recoil" goes,
it makes .40S&W, even hot loads, feel lighter than 9mm out of the M43.

That they do. One of my magazines if for a .40. Works perfectly well, and I can't tell the difference, except for its lack of witness holes and the .40 mark.

It's freaky at first, and hard to believe...
took me several range visits to trust in the 9mm/.40 mag swap ;)

Does make me wonder why nobody else ever thought to do it,
since Star managed to make it work so well??

CZ75 B Polished Stainless has an ambi safety

I noticed on your post you were mentioning that you did not know any CZ with ambidextrous safety. The 75B polished stainless has one.

It is a stunning firearm with cocobolo grips btw.

I was unaware of that model, but it doesn't have other ambi controls. And it is the same size as my 85B. I am looking moreso for a compact gun.
