Looking for a rifle chambered for .38 Special,,,

I got my hands on a Ruger M77/357 last weekend,,,

It's a fairly nice rifle,,,
Nothing to write home to Mom about,,,
But it had a decent balance and it fit my shoulder.

I had sent a question into the Ruger website,,,
I asked if it would feed .38 Special,,,
Here is their reply.

"The rifle was designed to feed .357 cartridges.
While it will handle the shorter .38 Special cartridge it is not recommended."

It went on to talk about the possibilities of rim-lock,,,
and how if I chose to use .38 special rounds,,,
Don't blame Ruger if they don't work well.

Basically they weaseled around the subject,,,
Implying that .38 will probably work,,,
But not giving any guarantee at all.

I don't blame them a bit,,,
I got the info I wanted from them.

I'll probably give up on another rifle in .38/.357,,,
They are just too danged expensive for my meager finances.

Thanks for the info though gentlemen,,,
It was fun learning a bit about them.
