Looking For A Quality Brand In 30-06....Your Opinions

Because of your comment about the arthritis in your hands;
Browning BAR or Browning BLR.
A Benelli R1 is also a good rifle to look at.

Browning A-Bolt,Winchester M70,Rem 700, to name a few. but if you can go to a gun show and find a 1903 springfield in shootable condition you wont go wrong. Mine that has been handed down hasn't done me wrong.

Great recomendations above. The Cooper if you can afford it would be hard to beat. Beautiful wood, and extremely accurate. The Kimber would be a close second.

You would not be sorry buying an American made rifle.

Fn mod 70 or browning x-bolt would be my choice.I you chose the blr check the short action model as they seem to handle better imo.

All are good recommendations, but I am partial to Savages, there is no beating the Accutrigger on them and super accurate right out of the box.

Just not as pretty as the Winchester.

Model 70's are very nice. If I were spending 1k or more on a rifle I'd be looking at the Sako. Their actions are smooth as burnished glass and look and shoot great. Leverwise, the BLR is hard to beat. Why not a BAR instead, semi-auto, great guns, less recoil and no manual work of the action except chambering that first round?

I don't believe there is a 'bad' brand out there in bolt actions.
If I were shopping today, I would limit my choices to American made.
My 30-06 is a Winchester Mod. 70 Ranger ca. 1980. Performs flawlessly and it tack driver accurate. I have witnessed and signed targets to prove it.

I've used Ruger bolt-action rifles since the early seventies and have never been disappointed with their accuracy, reliability, durability and handling properties. I also think the Ruger with its "classic" style is the best looking bolt-action out there. I have four now and the only negative thing I can say about any of them is that a couple would benefit from a lighter trigger pull.

I agree wit Rifleman, no bad brand out there, however (this is my own experience only) I found that ammong some brand Savage has the best consistency, best groups rigth out of the box, my Ruger need glass bed the action to bring it to grup to my like, Browning I have some that group consistently all day long and one I got ride of it since noting could bring down better than 3 moa at 100 yrd, I try beddind, restocking and over 500 round later I give up. Remington I only have 2 a ML and a .300 rem.ultra mag both fine, Sako print like a charm, same for Voere and Brno.

You said some thing about lever action and 30.06. Savage 99. It might take some looking but you will be happy. Accurate really nice rifle. I have a remington 700 in 30.06 very nice rifle, but if I came across the savage 97 I would trade in a heart beathttp://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=242131830#PIC Look on this site it 308 but give you an idea

Finding a Savage Model 99 chambered in 30-06? Good luck on finding something that was never officially produced. ;) If you can find an "unofficial", factory prototype Model 99, 30-06 rifle of some sort, you might become independently wealthy-depending on condition, of course. :) And if it's a take-down version, well, the sky's the limit. :D

Lever action?

Then how about the Ruger No1B? Very accurate and one of the best looking rifles out there. All Rugers come with rings, and the mounts are integeral to the receiver; so, all you need is a scope. In actuality, Its a falling block, but, you have your lever. Check 'em out.

I know after posting I looked around and all I could find was 300 , and 308. I felt a little bad about leading someone astray. 308 would be nice though

I second Rifletom on that, I like the #1, never own one but shoot one often, in .338 win mag, very smooth , I own a Browning 78 in 06, very similar action maybe a little smoother than the Ruger.
Compared to Savage model 99 the #1 or the B78 both require much less effort to operate the lever. I did use in the past a model 99 in .308 also.
