looking for a pocket carry snubbie

Another vote for the 642 airweight. The hammerless 38 revolver is the thing for pocket carry.

I have a 340pd, basically the same thing in scandium. Looking back, I should have saved a couple hundred bucks and gone with the 642.

The 642 is the way to go for your purposes, ry. The Smith may cost you a few bucks more, but it's well worth it. I often carry a 637 Airweight myself and find it plenty easy to shoot, even with +Ps. I like the exposed hammer, but then, I don't use this weapon for pocket carry.

Sure, maybe there's never been a need proven for single action, but, I've got it and you 642 folks don't.. Neener, neener!
 
Another vote for the S&W 642. It is very light, it "disappears" in your pocket, and the price is definitely right.

Re-read the comments from threefivesevenmag and don't shoot it's me. They are right on the money.

Get the 642. I'm planning on one myself at the Fort Worth gun show this weekend. Still trying to decide on the laser grips or not. At Sportsman's Warehouse the 642 is $339, and $499 with the CT 305 laser grips. I'm leaning towards the laser since this gun does NOT have a pinned front sight, making sight change more expensive/difficult, and if you believe the stats, it is more likely to be used in low light.

I got the 640 (stainless, 2 1/8 barrel, 23 ounces) a couple of months back because I didn't like shooting the 340. Never considered the 642 due to lack of pinned front sight, but have reconsidered since the 640 is just a hair too noticeable in my pocket.

My 2 cents... choose the S&W 442/642 (38spl +P) depending on the finish you prefer. I have a 442 and am quite satisfied with it for defensive purposes. It has a 5-shot cylinder. If you want to settle for slightly less power, the 32 H&R Magnum is offered with a 6-shot cylinder in a Smith. I load mine 442 with 125 gr HP's, but I understand that bullet expansion is minimal under 1000 ft/sec.

I've owned more than several of each model and my preference is a 642 for in the pocket carry and a 649 or 640 for OWB carry.YMMV.tom.:cool:
