looking for a pocket carry snubbie

I picked up a glock 26 last month for CC cause I got a hell of a deal on it. Now I have a glock 26 and a Kahr P9. I like the glock much better than the Kahr and it holds more rounds anyway. I am looking to trade in my Kahr on a pocket revolver......any recomendations?

I like the S&B "Bodyguard" or similar model from Taurus.

It has a shrouded hammer that minimizes the chance to catch on your pocket, but allows the option of single action use.

For pocket carry, the lightweight frames is probably better, but I'd want to limit it to .38spl.

yeah, there is no way I would want anything but a .38 because I think a snubbie .357 would be a PITA to shoot.........now the question is should I get a model that does not have an external hammer like a S&W 642 airweight?

I pocket carry a 649 sometimes. Sometimes in a front pocket of my jeans, sometimes in a hip pocket and sometimes in a jacket pocket. Sometimes, when carried in my pocket, I carry it in an Uncle Mike's Sidekick size 3 and at other times just the pistol sticking into my pocket. At still other times, I carry it in a leather holster on my belt. Point is, it is very carryable and offers several reasonably comfortable modes of carry which leave the weapon accessible. The 649 represents an excellent compromise between lighter (and harder/even less pleasurable to shoot) and heavier (which you might have at home when you need it on you).

I stoke it with .38 SPL +P 158 gr. Lead Semi Wadcutter HP. Why? Well because if they aren't the best, they are close......many would argue that they are the best. I would not trade them for another round in this caliber.

Are there better bullets in a different caliber? Aren't there other calibers which are more lethal? Aren't there newer sexier pistols? Probably yes to all; If you have them with you when you need them instead of at home on the dresser.

I have found this combination to meet my needs.......If it works for you, You are welcome.

If one reads and reads, the modal gun of choice is usually the 642. The price is right. The Bodyguard has the option of cocking the hammer but it is hard to find a case where this has made a difference - but that's not a disqualification.

One can go cheaper with Taurus. I have friends with them but the 642 is usually said to be most popular.

Get the S&W 642 Airweight.

It is very very easy to carry and hide out. Drawing from a pocket is fast, and if you are ever uncertain of a situation, just put your hand in your pocket and you're ready should a need to draw arise.

It will also handle most defense situations we civilians might encounter. If I ever carry it solo, which is rare, I usually carry a reload. If it's my BUG, then no. Even with a relaod, it's not hard to conceal.

Just buy one, you'll never regret it.

PS: some people complain about the recoil and trigger. I have never had a felt recoil problem even with heavier +P loads. Just grip harder. Also, practice with it a lot one handed, as this is probably how it will be fired in a quick self defense situation.

Colt Detective Special 2cond generation .38 Special. The classic of all snub noses. Holds 6 shots instead of 5 like S&W and is somewhat heavy and doesn't recoil as much as an airweight would (although as a small frame revolver it STILL has quite a bit of recoil) But all things considered, it is the best in my opinion

Check out the Taurus Total Titanium guns. They are lighter than your Glock.

If its light you will carry it more often and thats the point for a snubby. The Taurus Total Titanium guns have to be handled to get a scence of how light they are. Amazing!

If you're a connesoeir you can get a J-Frame in .32H&R Magnum (six shots as opposed to five). Also, an old Charter Arms Bulldog Pug in .44 Spl would pack a bigger punch than a .38. Finally, a local pawnshop has a K-Frame Smith in .38 Spl. And of course, a Detective Special is a classic as mentioned before.

I just picked up a older Mod -49 Bodyguard for pocket carry Its Blue and Walnut like a S&W should be and NO LOCK It also has a nice DA trigger.:)

I like the Taurus 851 Titanium. 38, very light, accurate and has a shrouded hammer. It is so light, easy to carry all the time. Also more reasonably priced.

I've had a Kahr MK9 and like it very much, but it was too heavy (maybe the PM9 would be better).

Virgin post here.....be kind:eek:

I open a liquor store 5 days a week with either a 642 or a sp101(357) in my back pocket. In the summer I wear lighter clothing and the 642 does duty while in the winter months the 101 gives me comfort. Both guns have been regripped and 'slicked up a bit' by my smith. Both shoot well and without a hitch. The 642 shoots either CorBon DPX (110g) or Speer Gold Dot (135g) snub load well. The 101 handles the Winchester white box 110g (reduced loading) quite well. In fact it's quicker on follow up than the 642. No doubt in part due to weight difference. I did not have too shoot many full power 357 loads in the 101 to realize that this was NOT going to work. I like both guns; I shoot them equally well (such as it is) and would be hard pressed to pick a favorite....FWIW
