Looking for a new vehicle gun..

Lots of great affordable options already mentioned. $400 gives you a lot of room. Offhand, the Stoeger Cougar, used Glocks, used Smith & Wessons, Smith & Wesson's SDVE series, Sig SP2022

I do think it's probably a good idea to take the gun out of the vehicle overnight to avoid theft. That's my approach. I keep one stored in the vehicle when I go to work, but take it inside once I'm done for the day.

"Truck gun" reminds me of a day visiting a friend in St Marie's Idaho, we decided to go shooting (only two feet of snow on ground) and loaded everything in the back of his Jeep PU including on top of everything else a tripod mounted browning 1919 ! We stopped at the local grocery on the way leaving the Jeep and contents in parking lot, on the way back we helped an elderly lady load her groceries to the sound of several well wishers in the lot yelling "Ya going huntin for bear" and the like. All in good fun and no SWAT teams responded to the lot or to rolling thunder from the hills a bit later. Neat community and what a "truck gun" , so if you are still undecided and would like to take a trip to Idaho maybe you could buy a real truck gun. :)

If you are going to leave it in the car unattended, get a Mattel. That way the punk who steals it can't do any harm with it.

+1. If I found out that someone hurt someone else with a gun I left in my vehicle, it would have a big effect on me.

When I had a truck gun it was a used S&W .357 mag I got for $275. With a revolver you can run a security cable through the trigger guard and lock it up pretty well. Can do it with a semi auto as well, and doubt many smash and grab thieves would be able to get the slide off.

I don't mean to pick on you in particular. In fact, in this very thread I cautioned against leaving a pistol in the car overnight.

But I wonder what it is about car storage that engenders such debate on gun forums.

If you had a gun in your nightstand, and someone broke into your house, stole it, and killed someone, I don't think most people would be torn up. But switch it to a car, and you get a real debate going.

In both cases, it would require someone breaking into a place they could not legally be and taking property that is not theirs.

I wonder why it's such a big difference.

Maybe it's because it is inherently easier to break into someone's car than their home, since one would have less control over stopping the robbery because unless the car is occupied, it's easier for low life's too take what isn't theirs. Smash and grab and what not. Whereas with a home invasion the thief is taking a much larger risk.

I agree though that where the gun was stolen from shouldn't make any difference in the guilt one would experience if it was used in a subsequent crime and/or murder.

This is why its actually useful to park INSIDE one's garage,
instead of filling it full of crap that needs to be tossed out already...
and lock the bloody car.

Can't count how many morons pull into the garage,
leave their car unlocked with a gun/valuables in it...
also forgetting to close/lock the garage doors...

Even worse are the ones who park outside, and leave their car doors unlocked...

Big fan of taking the pistol out and bringing it inside with you...

By the OP's Forum name, he vary well maybe parking it in a barn. If he lives in Alabama, there are some very remote areas. He could be protecting his calves from coyotes or worrying about snakes. He may not even lock the doors to his house. Just Thinking~ :)

To me, a vehicle gun means reliable and inexpensive.

The SD9VE (or 40 if you like) fits the bill. You can pay allot more for a poly gun and not get anything for the extra money.

The S&W SD9VE is an excellent lower priced pistol. Usually in the $325 range. They are very reliable and the only complaint my BIL has with his is the heavy trigger pull. When I shot it, it was accurate, and I didn't really notice the trigger.

No, just the opposite RTR. I have two former Bear Bryant players as lake neighbors. The Auburn fan base lives on a different section of the lake. Hope BAMA can gain another Championship this year.

There are folks around here who seem to believe posted signs are more secure than locks. :)

I could never understand why someone would leave a gun in their car?
