looking for a good pocket pistol

Texas Red

Lots of good suggestions on cc pistols. I carry a twice barrel Bond Derringer .45LC or .410 OOO. It carrys well in a pocket, simple to use and is fairly deadly.

Even out of such a short-barrel, I would not want to take a chance against either caliber:eek:.

I have a Kel Tec P3AT (380) and a Taurus TCP 738 (380). Both have been flawless and are good guns.

The Taurus TCP can be had now for $199 new. It has a better trigger than the P3AT and Ruger LCP (IMHO) and it has the slide lock on the last shot.

I highly recommend the TCP

22 caliber perrsonal carry

I am at a loss as to why many people are dismissive of this round. Granted, it is not a big boom, But it is accurate and as effective as the shooter. Potential collateral damage is a lot lower than the greater rounds. I am comfortable and confident with Stingers in my carry. If you can shoot? what do you actually need?

Capgun, is that your primary CCW or BUG?

There are lots of small handguns for pocket carry. I would go for what feels best to you, you can shoot well and will most likely actually carry. Don't worry about the caliber. The Ruger LCP is probably the the most popular of several very similar light pocket 380s (at least among the reasonably priced ones) but some people don't like how they shoot or feel in the hand. They are meant to be a simple, reliable, close-range self defense gun and they do that pretty well. The small snubbies are pretty good, too, but have the same caveats.

Personally, I wouldn't rule out a .22 LR like a Beretta Bobcat. They are very small and very easy to shoot. A couple of 22LR CCI Stingers that you can place in someone's chest will ruin someone's day. And 22 ammo is so cheap you won't have any excuse to not practice. And there are lots of good pocket holsters for the gun since it's been around for a while.

Although I wouldn't rule out 25 ACP and 32 ACP they do have draw backs. The ammo isn't as readily available and it is relatively expensive. Also the ballistics on the two aren't very overwhemling, especially the 25 ACP. At close range they will work. They have the advantage over .22 in that they are centerfire rounds and hence more reliable in general. But you can end up spending a lot more overall when you start to figure in a few hundred rounds of ammo.

If one were considering a Bobcat or Taurus equivalent, I would definitely recommend it in .22lr solely because of costs--.25ACP is astronomical in cost as others have stated so practice becomes sporadic at best. That being said, I think John Browning's .25acp caliber receives quite a bit of undue criticism.

Ruger LCP all the way.

I have a dentist appt. today, and don't want to IWB carry while laying in the chair. The PPS will stay at home, the LCP I'll be in my cargo shorts pocket.

I have a Ruger LCR in 38 +P. It is crazy light and looks like a fat wallet when carried in a pocket holster in the front pocket. There is also a 357 mag version. The only downside is the 5 shot capacity.

It has a great trigger and the grip absorbs a lot of the increased recoil resulting from the light weight.

I only carry it in the summer or if I expect to have to repeatedly disarm during the days travels.

A bit more then $300 but its one of the best in its class and is all metal.Seecamp

My small pocket pistol for the budget minded choices include some from the used market.

Beretta 950 and 21a in .25 ACP, preferably the 950
FEG/KBI SMC918/RK59/R61, a PPK inspired 9x18 Mak
Kel Tec P11.

I have used all of these personally.

I have a Ruger LCR in .38 special and another LCR in .357 magnum. Both have great triggers.
I frequently carry the .38 LCR as my pocket gun. It's light, handy, carries easily. I carry the .357 LCR, in a belt holster, under an untucked shirt, or a vest.
It's a little heavier. And, I really can access it quicker than I can a pocket pistol. I love them both. They are my everyday carry, one or the other of them.

What are your thoughts on .380, .25, .32 or even a .38 derringer...

I've been carrying a KelTec P380 for several years now. It's a real good choice for pocket carry. Very compact and light. I don't know how many hundreds of rounds I've put through it, but it's never had a hiccup.

Shot a Keltec P3AT and P32 today, bought the P32. Sweet shooting little pocket gun.

Any suggestions on good pocket and IWB holsters?

WyMark--Good choice indeed! Post a pic or two if you don't mind. I use a simple Desanti pocket holster for my P11 and it's great (gotta think they make one for the P32 as well).

I had a P32 in a DeSantis Nemesis. I liked it a lot. Cheap, effective and concealable. But I kept dropping the mag. My finger kept hitting the release every time it fired. I bought a Kahr P380 instead and sold the P32. I imagine the Kel-tec .380 version is equally effective but I am a snob. For the price, Kel-tec cannot be beat.

The NAA Guardian in .32 acp is a bit less expensive than the Seecamp and, IMHO, a quality alternative.

1908 Colt Vest Pocket .25

I sometimes carry a 1908 Colt Vest Pocket in summer months when wardrobe dictates.
Though .25ACP might not be my first choice of cailber, it has it's advantages with being small, easy to conceal, and comfortable to carry.

Surprisingly accurate too! :)
