Looking for a fun, cheap to shoot gun

A buddy of mine is looking for a new gun; simply for 'fun' shooting, preferably cheap to shoot.

He had a tec-22 until the firing pin shattered; it qualified, but replacement parts are outrageous, if you can even find them.

Is there anything else out there anyone can recommend (semiauto pistol) that will feed walmart's 550rounds for $8 or similar costing rounds?

I use walmart .22 rounds and they work great in a ruger .22/45. The rugers or a browning buckmark are good guns and cost between $200-$300. Closer to the $200. area.

My ruger is a tack driver. The kids love to shoot this pistol. Mine has the bull barrel. plunker

I have a Ruger .22 and a Browning Buckmark. Both fire well and are more accurate than I am. Both will provide years of cheap shooting fun.

I have, or have had, 22 caliber handguns made by Ruger, Colt, S&W and Browning. My favorite gun for target shooting was the Browning Buckmark and my favorite plinking gun was the S&W 422 (which was also the least expensive and digested everything I put into it). If price is a big concern, I have also had good luck with the Pheonix Arms HP22 with the rangemaster kit. Pretty good little shooter for the money.

Smith & Wesson .22A sport model. This is an excellent .22 which comes with the ability to mount red dots or scopes automaticly with no gun smithing. Make sure you get the stainless and not the black baked on enamel one like I have.

I have .22 pistols by Ruger, Browning and Beretta. Your first should be the Ruger. Good luck and be safe.

Ruger .22. Any model should do. I have the 22/45. Ammunition is inexpensive and readily available. Yes, it is a tack driver.

Ruger .22 in any style, or Browning Buckmark. Either one will outshoot & outlast your buddy.

Get whichever one you can buy used =real cheap.

Well, I think we can all agree that the answer is a .22, but which one is a different story. Any of the Ruger MK's or 22/45's, S&W 22A or 22S, Browning Buck Marks, or even the elusive Colt .22 will do you just fine.

My personal .22 pistol is a S&W 22S with a red dot scope on it. It'll take everything Wal-Mart has to offer (I always buy the cheap stuff when it comes to .22's), with the occassional jam. Very accurate.

I have a Browning Medalist,it's great, and IMHO better than any Ruger that ever lived. But I also have a S&W Model 17 six shot revolver and I shoot it in preference to the auto.It doesn't spray cases everywhere and can't eat ammo as fast as the auto. Also it's a great trainer for any other S&W Revolver--same size and handling characteristics. And with the .22 you don't have to reload.

Well, if you've got a 1911 or a Glock or a Beretta 92/96, or a CZ-75, then get the .22 adapter that's available for that gun.

My Kadet adapter for my CZ-85 Combat is a lot of fun, as accurate as my Ruger Target Competition (which I recently traded, because of the Kadet's accuracy) and lets you develop proficiency with the base gun at a very low cost.

Ruger over Browning Buckmark. Why? When you field strip the Browning, you have to remove that top strap which has the rear sight. When you reinstall it, the sight may be off. Argggh!
