Looking for a cheap handgun.

MilSurp pistols in any category that I want to own start at $300 and go up, way up. You may stumble on to a deal, like a Singer 1911A1 for $100, but that is about as likely as finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

Most of my MilSurps go for some serious $ and I don't like to carry them everyday.

As an everyday carry you can't go wrong with the S&W Sigma series in 9mm or .40. There is a $50 rebate or two free magazines offer from the factory, a lifetime warranty with every purchase, any they will eat any ammo you feed them. They are not as fussy with ammo as many milsurps are.

I don't want to turn this into a Sigma trigger bashing thread. I have a .40 Sigma and I'm very pleased with it. When I go to the store it is seldom that there is no ammo available and any ammo will feed in it. Nuff' said.

CZ-82. I just bought two from these guys.

We are quite impressed with them. Accurate, fixed barrel with a very easy take down. 9X18 marakov fits in between the .380 and 9mm Luger. I paid the extra ten dollars for best of five. What I really like about this deal is that it came with a nice, useable holster and two mags. Also, the ammo is cheap. I picked up 500 for $179.

I didn't mean a collection as in highly sought-after pistols, I meant a collection so me and my buddies can go have fun shooting preferably some old military pistols.
...
I suppose I am looking for quantity then. I plan to buy 10 or so pistols, I would prefer them and their ammunition to not run me a ton of money so that I don't need a loan for a weekend shooting trip.

Thanks all,
Drame22

You may be better off with 5 or 6 moderately priced 9mm pistols, and take fewer friends with you each time you go shooting. If your friends do not have their own guns and are newbies, then 9 at a time is a lot to keep track of and what they are doing. Glock 19 and 17s are military like and very rugged, or you could go for Beretta 92 to be real military like.

Save lots of your own money, let your friends get there own guns. Let them buy there own ammo too!Any way you can't really expect to supervise 9-10 guys on the range along side you.

If you are only going to be plinking, get some 22s. In semi auto you should be able to find a used Browning Buckmark or Ruger MkI (or MkII or MkIII) for less than $300 and last a lifetime. The ammo is cheap.

I wanted a cheap 45 auto just to carry in the truck.

I bought a $150 Hi-Point that could fall out in the mud and it wouldnt bother me much.

After 1 box of ammo it started jamming ,so I sent it to the factory and in a very short time it came back fixed and they thru in an extra clip too.

Now after about 12,000 rounds of mostly cast bullets and hardly any cleaning (my laziness), it still works without a single problem.

For a $150 ,you bet I'm happy.:)

my $.02 - if you plan on carrying any of these guns, or simply designating one of them for your protection/defense gun (not just for fun), then I would firmly suggest that you spend more than $150-$300. I know that dollar value isn't everything, but i feel like you generally get what you pay for.

I know you said these guns will be more for fun than anything else, but again I stress, if any of these guns are to be designated as your personal protection weapon, PLEASE, do some research, suck it up, and fork out the cash for a good reliable gun.

Glock, HK, Sig, and S&W are just a few.

(most Glocks sell in the $500 - $600 range; plus PLENTY of police trade-ins for somewhere around $300 - $350)

you don't want to be staring into the face of a thug in your living room and hear a "click" instead of a "BANG".
