Hello all, I am looking for a cheap 10mm handgun of any kind to replace my glock 23 .40.

id like to find one under 600$ if possible because my glock crapped out and I want to replace it with something bigger.

if you all have any good suggestions, let me know!

I don't own one but they're all steel construction. Haven't heard any complaints on them yet. Lifetime warranty as long as you don't modify it.

well, I don't trust glock after my g23 broke. sure I sent it back and I am waiting on its return but it had very low round count and I clean every one of my guns after shooting thoroughly. the front right slide rail wore out of the polymer frame from the slide coming back and peeling away layers of polymer. I was cleaning it and a piece of my cleaning cloth barely got snagged on the corner and pulled it right out.

NIB EAA Witness 10MM only $516 at Buds Guns. i have several EAA's. They make good guns however I do not own a 10MM.

I am leaning more twords the Rock island but tell me about the EAAs? do they have double-stacked mags? what is the warranty? And How well are they built?

I can certainly understand how such an experience might leave a bad taste in your mouth, but I've found it useful to always remember this:

It's not whether or not a company has a problem, all companies have problems. It's how they handle those problems that keeps me coming back or looking for something else.

If Glock steps up and takes care of you - as I suspect they will - I don't see any real reason to judge them negatively over the experience. That sounds like a very strange, random occurrence. Certainly not an issue that I have ever seen reported before in years and years of working with Glocks, among many other types of guns.

With that said, I can understand if you're feeling a little apprehensive about Glock at the moment. If you really wish to move on, my suggestions for other 10mm platforms would be:

- Sig P220 (not cheap)
- EAA Witness
- Rock Island 1911

Sarge,

my g23 was a g2 with a nickel boron coted slide. I was the original owner and got it purely to trade on several years ago and decided I liked it and kept it, however and It has been my CC for 3 years. id say it has a round count of 400-600 but I have not seen any other problems like mine has.

I had the slide coated after it got some significant carry wear on it. I do highly recommend the Nickel Boron coating.

Definitely sounds like a fluke. Glocks are on the whole solid choices.

So what's the purpose of going with 10mm over the 40 again?

As far as options... The EAA pistols are based on the CZ75, so if you have held one, you have a rough idea what the EAA is like.

1911s are well known, so you know what you are getting there. As far as Rock Island, they have a solid reputation as a well made budget option in the 1912 space.

The Sig was mentioned, not cheap but I find Sigs shoot very smooth for the chambering a that are in. My 9mm is a dream to shoot, not that 9mm is a harsh round, it's just so smooth when fired from a Sig. I found the same for 40... I would hazard that the same holds for 45 and 10mm.

T_Pro_Z, I am not a big Glock guy and do not own one. With that said, I shoot with guys who make a living in law enforcement. They all carry Glocks that have thousands of rounds through them. Your sample size cannot give you an accurate representation of Glock quality. While I am not a fan, if I were going to buy a 10 mm it would be a Glock. It wouldn't be my favorite pistol, but if I knew upfront I was going into a gunfight (and couldn't have a long-gun) it might even be my first choice.

you are correct, but with as little as I used the glock that I owned and the malfunction that it had, id rather not trust my life with it.

I can certainly understand your prejudice against Glocks. For what seemed like an eternity, I had the gift of finding brand new, total duds among well-respected brands and models. I had a dog S&W K22, Ruger Bull Barrel Target 22 and the worse Ruger 45 Blackhawk I've seen before or since.

As someone who's been exposed to Glocks since they were introduced, and as an armorer on his third cycle, I can tell you your 23 was a complete anomaly; and that Glock will likely replace it. Don't let it put you off the brand, if you can help it. A Gen 3 Model 20 would meet your needs, otherwise the Rock Island will probably be fine. RIA's customer service is great, if you ever need it.

I am not a Glock fanboy... I do own one Glock, mostly just to own one. It is a gen4 as I could not stand the way the gen 3 felt in hand, or the grip angle. Just want you to go into this with that knowledge, so no hidden meaning is attributed to what I write.

Statistics say that every gun model has had strange things happen when in use, with at least one, but most likely several, examples of that model.

Internal biases can be hard to overcome, and loss aversion is a strong one... Which is the bias I think this may butt up against, with your current distrust of Glock.

Personal examples tend to stick in our minds much stronger than the examples put forth by other people as well.

Yes, "on the whole" Glocks are solid options... That is not to say that occasional bad examples and faulty pistols don't make their way into the market. In fact, that phrase is intended to acknowledge the fact that Glocks are not perfect.

Rock Island has plenty of detractors and examples of poor pistols... EAA and Sig as well.

You look around hard enough, you will find the dirt on any firearm and manufacturer.

With your particular problem Glock... It was a fluke, a rare and unlikely chance...

You basically experienced the Shirley Jackson's Lottery of the firearms world.

If you do not want a Glock, that is fine, but no pistol you choose will have better odds of success than a Glock. Modern pistols are pretty much on par with each other, given you look at any respected manufacturer.

And if we are breaking down biases... I am still curious as to why you are going with a 10mm rather than sticking with 40... There are many more models available in 40 for one...
