looking for a 357 mag budget $600

Around here I'm seeing good used S&W and Ruger for $600, bought a Model 28-2 last week for $586 out the door, bery nice used, with original box and cleaning kit.

Keep looking.

I bought a very nice blued, 2", 6 shot Rossi revolver under $400 brand new a few years ago. it shoots well, is very sturdy and has had no problems.

i am willing to give up on the NEW part ... but i want a SNUB NOSE revolver...
i do not know how a 357mag would shoot as a snub
i would be willing to get a slightly smaller caliber if its as good as a 357mag....

I shoot a 640-1 j frame snub now in 357 mag. I can be pretty fast and accurate with it. I feel very comfortable with this as my CCW, except the reload...mine is magnaported. Recoil is harsh, but return to target times are good. Additionally, the S&W trigger is great.

I also have a S&W 19-3 4" in 357 mag. The recoil is less harsh and accuracy is great....like maybe best of all my pistols! Since it is a K frame, it won't see any H110 180 gr loads, but I do enjoy moderate 90% full velocity 158 gr loads. It is a real shooter and pretty blue.

A J frame snubby, especially a 340PD is HARSH, but some people can shoot them well. I feel I can.

A K frame snubby's larger grip should make this quite pleasant. Personally, I would love a 3" 13-3 cerakoted black!

I would have no issue buying a 70's production 13,19,65,66 if I can check it out. They were good guns.

If you want to shoot hotter loads, an N frame would be a better choice as there is a rare, but documented issue with K frames cracking or gas cutting in the thinnest part of the forcing cone.

A used 3 inch model 65 is perfect if you can find one. But if not then go with the 3 inch Ruger SP101 and you can get that new. In fact now that you have resolved to go with the snub 357 I think the SP101 is the way to go. I really would love to own that gun. And it's got enough weight that shooting will be very comfortable. Now you got me thinking of that gun all over again.

One of my favorite revolvers (now) is a Taurus 617, 7-shot .357 snubbie ... heavy enough to control magnum recoil, mine needed a trigger job but even with the trip to the 'smith it was under $600, very accurate, reliable, good capacity, had a custom leather paddle holster made for it and I still occasionally carry it ...
