Longest range you've taken game with a .22?!?

800 yards on ground squirrel!!!!!!!Da-- now I feel bad thought I was doing great with head shots at 70-75 yards with leupold rimfire 4X man I really feel bad now!

Congrats on the Marlin 81TS. My wife gave me one for Christmas last year and I really enjoy it. Furthest kill for me with a 22 lr is a starling at approximately 120 yards. 22 lr subsonic is much louder than 22 cb. To my ears 22 lr subsonic is not much quieter than the standard velocity bulk pack federal ammo I normally shoot.

Enjoy your new rifle, but don't be too disappointed if you can't hit targets at 800 yards, or anything over 200 yards for that matter.

I don't know how anyone could get enough energy to make a kill past 150yds. I spent Saturday shooting at a 24"x27" gong with a Remington 597 target and Federal .22's. At 300yds. We had to aim about 9-15' high at that distance. I just don't think .22's powder charges are manufactured consistent enough to shoot at that range with any degree of repeatability.

I can honestly say I can hit anything I want to all the time at 100 yards with my 10/22 (heavy bbl, Volq trigger assb, 24X scope, etc.). I can hit most anything half the time at 200 yards. That's about it.

Now about that 800 yard claim, well let's just say I'd have to see it to believe it. I'm not doubting you, Jay, I'm doubting your friend. Ammo consistency, bullet ballistic coefficient, wind, elevation required, size of target, low power scope (20X at 800 yards is low IMO) all say it isn't possible. That isn't to say a lucky shot can't be bragged about, but luck gets you nowhere in a long range contest.

Just wanted to add my congrats to the mix on the Marlin 81TS. I picked this (often overlooked) rifle up because I wanted to be able to shoot shorts-longs-CBs and such, but I didn't wanted to spend the $350-400 on one of the nicer leverguns... at least not yet, anyway. I tried looking used for a 39A or 9422, but never found one, and I suppose if I had the barrel would have been shot out anyway.

I think I prefer tube-feeders for all-day .22 plinking anyway, so I didn't want a box mag.

I haven't been disappointed. It's at least as accurate as I am. Just kind of heavy a little, that's all...

If anybody else is in that boat I described at the beginning of my post, they might want to give the gun a look. I could have gotten a Henry I suppose, but I just really would rather have not after hearing some mixed-to-negative reviews. I think I did the right thing.

I think I will be old and grey before I can hit anything with a .22 at 800y.... if ever....

I'm with others here. Even if I could hit something at 800 yards with a .22LR (I will never be THAT good of a shot), I wouldn't want to. For me, even varmints deserve a quick, clean, and humane kill. I know that there are others here who could care less about those things, but I believe in kharma, we reap what we sow, what goes around comes around, etc, blah, blah, blah, yadda, yadda, yadda...

Lets see, crow, 200m. Clark 10/22...its a good shooting .22 but 800yrds would strain the lil' fella ;-). At 200 (win power pt)the bullet drops roughly 5 feet, and its in such an arch that if your range guesstimation is off a couple feet either way, ya miss.Another thing is wind, man does it affect a .22 lr... even the slightest breeze.Sure its possible to hit something at 800 yrds w/ a .22, but I would have a hard time believing someone could do it with much consistancy. Oh yeah, I did hit a flying bird at around 200 with a Ruger MKII one time. hehehe What'cha rekon my chances are of get'in yall to believe that was skill hehe ;-) bye now, m16
