Load Data descrepencies for .243 Win.

Saturday I ordered Forster Benchrest Dies for .243 winchester. Monday they were at my front door....Gunstop Reloading is pretty fast man.....

Have fun with your new dies! I went to the range the other day and shot the Hornady 95gr. SST Superformance ammo to finish sighting the rifle, and tried a few rounds I had loaded with the Speer bullets. Factory ammo is looking really good in this rifle. The Speer handloads---well, the 4th step up from the starting load chronied over 3400 fps, about 250 above the book results. Hung that deal up right there and went home. Primers were getting flattened and the recoil was noticeable. Had the COL .025 off the lands, which made them a lot longer than Speer had recommended. I have never had over pressure starting .025 inch off the lands before. Ever. Wow.

So the next experiment will be with Nosler 90 gr. ballistic tips. Their load data is usually about spot on for fps in my experience. Even starting just .01 off the lands.

Big case. Little bullet.

.243 Win can be a little finicky about certain bullet and powder combinations.

It doesn't lie in waiting, just hoping for a chance to jump out of the shadows and rip your face off, like Blue Dot in .44 Mag; but you may occasionally run into abnormal pressure signs with what should otherwise be a safe load.
