Like a Brand More than You Realized?

I just bought a .44 magnum Redhawk. I always wanted a big and impractical (for me my ordinary needs) revolver. Originally, I wanted an S&W 629 but the Ruger just felt way better iny hand. It's kind of weird, I grew up in a S&W family and always considered myself an "S&W revolver guy" BUT the Redhawk makes Ruger outnumber my S&Ws. Then I realized that Ruger is the most dominant company in my ENTIRE collection.

I don't know why it surprised me. I bought everyone of the guns myself and read reviews and price shopped them before buying. I guess it's because of the diversity of my collection and that Ruger offers almost "every type" of gun except the 1911. I think the only other company that does this is Smith and Wesson. Ironically, they lack a cowboy revolver which is what made me buy my first Ruger Revolver.)

Anyway, I am not really "brand loyal" with my firearms. I just buy what I like best in a particular category. It was just by "dumb luck" that one brand has become a large part of my collection.

This ever happen to you? Where you just "realize" you own alot of guns from a particular company?

I didn't have anything against FN, but I just didn't like anything that they offered. Then I bought a FiveseveN pistol. Next thing I know, there are three FN guns in my safe, and I like them all. They do make good stuff, I just didn't have one for a long time.

When i read your headline i was actually thinking of Ruger. What a great company.

They have a great reputation that they deserve.

Yes,HiPoints.

I have never owned one.

But all the talk about these guns-for what they are designed to do-be the cheapest guns of working quality you can buy-is good.

Makes me respect that brand.

Sometimes, you just need something to fire a bullet when you need it too.

And,at the lowest end of the price scale,HiPoints are winners.

Very surprised with Glock. While I still have issues with the grip angle, the gun itself highly impresses me.

I shied away from the line for years until I tried a 19 with lighter connector.

Ruger is usually one of the best deals out there.

I've not shot one but Bersa has a very good rep as one of the only cheap autos worth talking about, esp. in a compact critter like the 380s.

TC. But it only started with Contender handguns. From there it went to carbines, muzzleloaders (boy did it ever) and then .22 semiauto rifles.

Ruger's a big favorite too.

I can't say that a "brand" has surprised me. I have been extreemely lucky with guns from several manufacturers.

However, I will point out that a particular "model" surprised me just a little.

That being the sigma. The sigma had to be made inside of a hand; the ergonomics are splendid to say the least. The gun is much better and much easier to shoot than the internet has given it credit for.

My Brand Loyalty started in 1960. I bought a used Ruger Auto. 22 Pistol. I was very pleased with it, so when I got a Job where I could afford a new gun, I shopped around but ended up buying a Ruger Blackhawk .30cal Revolver. When I shopped for a Rifle I ended up with a new Ruger Model 77 30-06. Seems ever since, when I start shopping, about 90 % of the time I end up with a Ruger. I have bought a new Winchester Lever 30-30, Remington Nylon .22, and S&W Airweight that I like, but most of the time it has been Rugers.

Like a Brand More than You Realized?

More than I realized? No. When I buy a gun, I don't take too many leaps of faith and tend to stick to with the tried and true brands. As a result, I do have a lot of S&W and Rugers and a gathering of a few other brands.

Stoeger Cougar Series. Beretta made, Beretta designed & almost half the price. By far one of the very best values on the market today.

Perhaps I'm different than many (who would have thought!:D), but I don't really care about brands, I care about specific models. I may say I like a brand because it has several models of guns that I like, but I do not like a gun because it is a particular brand.

Ruger is an example. For me, I like Ruger SA revolvers. I am ambivalent about Ruger DA revolvers, while I like Ruger semiauto rimfires, I detest Ruger semiauto centerfires. There is no model in that part of the line that appeals to me. Not that they are no good, or don't work well, or are bad bargains, I just don't care for the styling.

I like some S&Ws and don't like others. I happen to dislike GLocks, because every one I have had experience with (and there have been a few) has been unsatisfactory for me. If they ever make a pistol that is satisfactory to me, I will buy one. So far, they don't seem interested in that.

No brand loyalty, but model loyalty for me.

With a recent purchase of two more, I just relized I have more S&W's than anything else. No big surprise, I like classics.
2 guns that have surprised me and have grown to like are my Taurus pistols.

I'm not brand loyal, just happen to like certain models from certain manufacturers.

piled up

For me, Ruger and EAA.

I had noticed at one time I had Springfield Armory 1911s in 9x19, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP.
I didn't care for them much so I rid myself of two. Then I felt better.

I'd like to give a nod to EAA and FN Herstal. I've never put my hands on an FN product that didn't impress me. EAA surprised me with how easy and fun they are to shoot, the Witness line in particular.

Funny that this thread would come up. Last night I was doing some PM and realized that I have A LOT of a Smith & Wesson products. A lot more than any other brand in the safe.
