Wow - well, I like my plan of getting out of Dodge. Will the guy even carry a gun given your description?
Would reading books about the philosopy of self-defense do any good? A true pacifist wouldn't carry at all.
If the person has moral scruples and wants to carry, might not an appeal that without training other innocents might be put at risk due to his incompetence when shooting, have an impact towards getting training.
I guess, I see this as a no win. At contact distance, getting the gun out and stopping the person is really iffy. One might even be better with a giant pepper spray. I recently heard a presentation by a firearms savvy trauma surgeon how most people can keep in the fight for 15 sec after being shot.
A speed rock to the belly probably isn't going to slow down a looney from slicing the crappola out of you.
