Lick the front sight?

I think it does the same thing as when a sniper blows off his bullet before a shot. Nothing.

I must be doing something wrong; I keep licking the front sight but haven't gotten to the tootsie center yet. Should I bite it?

Maybe to remove dust and have a nice black sight for the optimal sight picture.

Sight licking/ers. Perhaps when muskets & foulers were popular and sported sterling silver or nickel front barrel sights it was a appropriate thing to do. But these days with Fiber optics & telescopic lens I don't see any advantage in doing. Although I suspect some here may still believe in the practice.
