Licensing question

Hey guys.
I may be moving to the USA next year (either nevada, arizona, california, or oregon.)
I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with the firearms licensing process in these states that they could share.

Cheers
Pete

Of the states you've listed, CA is the most restrictive. Here is a link to the California Department of Justice gun laws:

https://oag.ca.gov/firearms

Waiting periods on all gun purchase transactions, all private sales have to go through a dealer who has a Federal Firearms License (FFL), and as of the first of this year all firearms purchased have their serial number stored in a state controlled database.

Yeah, if you like firearms (and want to avoid paying more than half of your income in taxes; my brother lives there, makes a decent living, and overall he pays about 65% of his income in taxes) then stay out of California. But Nevada, Arizona, and Oregon are great places for gun owners.

Oregon is firearms friendly, 'though we are fending off some stupidity from leftists in the most populous counties. A Concealed Handgun License is issued on a shall issue basis and only a minor nuisance and expense. A good place to start is https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/bills_laws/lawsstatutes/2011ors166.html. There are also several good organizations such as the Oregon State Shooting Association. At this time, other than full auto and suppressors (a federal matter,) our guns are not registered or licensed.

Bring your own job...

No, seriously, Pete -- do you get to choose one of the four states you listed, or are each of these "possible" destinations you may land because of something out of your direct control (such as, say, employment) ?!

Quite simply, Arizona may be one of the most gun-friendly states in our great nation, and it could well be argued (and it wouldn't take much arguing...) that California is the WORST.

This topic and initial post isn't too far off from something of this nature...
"Trying to plan the menu for a family dinner and I have four possibilities. We can do prime rib, pork chops, hamburgers or rat poison. Any thoughts or suggestions?!

Ha, I love it!

Worth repeating.

Have relatives in Cal. as well. Although if I did have to move to Cal ., I would hope it would be Northern Cal.

+1 for Arizona. I have lived here most of my adult life and i am scared by some of the things i read about other states (apparently some of you all dont have the same constitution that i was taught in school) and i dont even consider the peoples republic of californistan part of the USA when it comes to guns any more

AZ has concealed carry for all no permit required! "The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed".

At least some of the states know how to read!

Pretty much my choice but I'd like to stay in the pacific time zone to make work easier.

If you -LOVE- guns and you willingly choose California when you did not have to choose California, you will regret it.

And if you admit to it after the fact, you'll get suggestions for having your head checked! ;):D (and they'll be accurate)

California is a phenomenal place, but your life will be BETTER if you live NEAR California and you VISIT it. Don't live there if you aren't forced!

If I may also point out, there may be a set of firearm rules for people moving into the USA concerning non-citizens (or whatever the PC term is).

Something is WAAAY wrong about this post. CA income taxes top out at well well under 50%. Even if you added 10% for sales tax something is still fishey.

I know you said "65% of his income in taxes" so he must be somewhere that has outrageous property taxes (Mello-Roos possibly). And that's not the norm.

AZ doesn't change their clocks for Day light Saving time so its the same time as CA roughly about 1/2 the year and only 1 hour different during the other 1/2.

If you add up all the various federal, state, and local taxes (not including sales taxes), there are a lot of people in CA paying over 60% of their total income in taxes.
