Liberal Employers

I did not attempt to get contraband onto government property. If you re-read my origonal message, I willingly told the K-9 officer about the items and willingly gave them up. Again I will state, had my company told me that the site was government property, I would have searched my truck before I left in the morning and removed them. It certainly wasn't intentional. I'm not one to want to cause trouble. Another issue is that when other employees have previouly gone to this site, DOD usually made them park outside of the gate. The guard I was dealing with that day, let us through so we didn't have to walk through the pouring rain. That was the guard's decision. It wasn't the first time that anyone from my company has parked inside the gates. It all depends on the guard that day apparently. In order for me to follow the rules I need to be informed of what the rules are whether it be verbally or in black and white. The example of the incompetant woman at work was an example of the mentality of the company as a whole. I could Ramble off 10 other stories to further back my case of the liberal mentality of the company but this is a gun forum, not a workplace politics forum.

My point is that the political leanings of the company have nothing to do with the fact that they were informed of a situation involving contraband. Liberalism gets blamed for way too much these days.

You should have taken steps to make sure that you did not violate any of the contraband rules.

I regularly will be called to go to an airport or NASA facility I also regularly carry a handgun and/or ammo and accessories. I make sure that I am in compliance with the rules of the site. You have already pointed out a viable option, such as parking outside the gate

.I'd be willing to bet that they are in black and white, on a big sign outside the gate you were going through

My other point is that you seem to be blaming others for a situation that hasn't even come about yet.

It's not the guard's fault for letting you in. It's not the company's fault for being homosexual minority loving liberals that don't give money to the causes you think they should. It's not the mean old lady's fault.

You made the error no matter how innocent or harmless. I might also add that you failed to follow instructions to pick the items up because it would have inconvienced you

Again, so far all the company has asked is for your side and what exactly was involved, which would indicate that they don't know anything except firearm related contraband.

As a boss I would not appreciate the attitude that you have displayed here.
I have had to bring in a few people for a spanking. All I ever wanted to hear is " Here's what happened. I sorry, it won't happen again"

The last thing I want is an excuse the worst thing you could do is try to shift the blame

Also, it's illegal to take firearms, ammunition, knives, or other weapons or weapon-related items into pretty much any federal facility..... courthouse, capitol building, military recruiting station, military installation, etc.

In my job I also had to go to Government installations, and when I do I leave all my gun stuff at home. This includes targets, ammo, cases, and anything else that might be considered dangerous. I know this because of the first time I went there and they searched my car with a dog and mirrors to look underneath.

I would just right the letter, your employers must be able to tell the DOD that they investigated the incident and have a written explanation from the offending party.

Or to put a not too fine of a point on it: I see your boss in this situation: After one of their employees (you) got caught trying to bring contraband into a government intallation, he became beligerant and refused to write a written response to the situation. Because this jepordized their important military contract, they had to terminate him. It is not because of what he was carrying, but he failed to fill out the required paperwork to clear the matter up.

Here's another though.

Guard had your property at his station, due to regs he can't just simply throw it away without some paperwork that goes higher up he also can't just store it there indefinitely
So instead he calls you to remind you that you forgot to pick up your stuff.

The boss gets the info second or third hand. By that time the story has grown a little or has gotten fuzzy around the edges.

Guard station just wants you to get your stuff as agreed at the time of the incident

Boss just wants clarification as to exactly what the incident involved

You go into panic/defensive mode because they are what you perceive to be liberal and start looking for CYA material.

Picking up my items was out of the question. I was instructed to pick the items up before 1600. My immediate supervisor would not let me leave early enough in order to pick them up. Otherwise I would have. As a matter of fact I have made it clear that it won't happen again and that my having the items was not intentional yet they are still treating me like some gun-crazed maniac. Also you have to realize that the name of the site that was on my directions had no indication that it was a government site, so how am I supposed to know that it is ahead of time? I understad why I need to write the paper and clarify, but the statement "what do you do that for?" from a manager is uncalled for. I'm not upset about the fact that I have to tell them the situation, but it does upset me that I'm being forced to tell them why I had the items in my vehicle from the weekend before from a trip to the range. I have explained that it was only a box of ammo that fell out of my shooting bag when I turned a corner and the bb gun just didn't get brought in in my house right away and that I didn't place these things in my vehicle to bring to the site intentionally. The DOD has nothing to do with this. The situation was clear from the minute I willingly haded over the items and when I talked to the officer that was holding my things, he said pleasantly that everything was okay and just to know better for next time. No harm done on that end. I'm not stupid or naive to the fact that you can't take these things to a federal facility. I didn't know it was. Would you intentionally walk barefoot on a surface that you know has broken glass knowing you are going to cut your foot? No. Same situation just on a different level. I have written my letter and explained the situation as it had occourred with no hostility, but no explination of why I shoot or why it was in my posession at all. THAT is what is none of their business.
