Levergun suitable bullets

Also, note that you can use pointed or even spitzer bullets if you are very very careful to have only a single round in the magazine at a time.

I have two Uberti lever action rifles in .38 Special (an 1866 repro) and .357 Magnum (1873). I've been shooting cowboy action for seven years and have put quite a few rounds through these rifles.

I don't use round nose bullets in my rifle ammo. I have shot a few semiwadcutters, which as luck would have it fed well, a fair amount of RNFP (round nose flat point) bullets, mostly 158s, and several thousand rounds loaded with TCFP (truncated cone flat point) bullets. These are my first choice in lever action rifles and are available from some ammunition manufacturers, including Georgia Arms.

Your Winchester '73 is a really nice rifle. Enjoy!

My varied ammo selection finally arrived and I took my 1873 to the range with a buddy and had a blast shooting through each. The Miroku cycled each different type of round flawlessly and although I am a new shooter and not a particularly good shot, I was doing really well hitting near the center of the target at the range maximum of 75 feet with the iron sights

The 38 special 125 grain Winchester rounds felt like a .22 and the seven different .357 rounds I tried got progressively louder and bigger recoil all the way to the 180 grain Buffalo Bore gas check that really was a lot of fun to shoot. I put them below in order of how much recoil they had.

I've got my classroom session to complete my hunter certification in 2 weeks time, then it's off to a friends property in the boonies to shoot some rabbits and squirrels :) He also has wild hogs on his property but tells me that my rifle shooting .357 would just piss the hog off and something bigger is needed

I think that your 180's would do a lot more than "piss off" a hog!

I have killed 185lb piggies with one shot at 70 yds with my M19...
