Lever Gun in 44 mag

My rossi 44mag SS carbine is always my first choice when headed into the deep dark woods. After messing with the red dot thing recently--I decided to go back to my Nikon force xr scope--which promptly gave up the ghost soon after I remounted it. : ( First Nikon I've ever had fail me. No worries, still have my loopie scout scope which is great!

If this gun weighed 6 lbs or more I probably wouldn't use it as my primary hunting rifle--but 4.8 lbs of easy-swinging rifle that LOVES hot handloads of 44 mag smackdown--gotta love it!

 
I own a Marlin 32/20 CL. While working up loads I loaded thru the ejection port. When I started using the magazine I realized you couldn't shoot a mag full without jamming. Returned it to Marlin, they sent it back as repaired, returned it to Marlin, they sent it back as repaired, returned it to Marlin they sent it back as repaired. Eureka, it worked as advertised. BTW, my Marlin cycles full wadcutter and wouldn't doubt it would cycle SWCs also.
 
Bubbles has two of the .32-20 Marlins.
They've been slicked up a bit, totally reliable, she loves 'em.
CAS guns, she can't play anymore due to wrist & thumb deterioration, but she'll never let those rifles go.

I have a Brockmanized .44 Mag Marlin, does not jam.
Have a Henry .44 Mag steeler here, same.

I must be lucky I have a remlin and love it,shoots about 11/2 inch groups @ 100 yards with 240gr, HP'S. shot 3 deer last weekend with it at one time.but it will shake the screws lose no big deal I have a screw driver.Its a fun little gun 1894 get my vote.
 
This thread aroused my curiosity and I took a good look at the Rossi.It seems like a very nice copy of the 1892 Winchester. If I needed a 44, I would take a chance on one based on feed back on this thread.

Maybe with a remlin, the best approach is buy from a local dealer and work the gun a little on the shop. If it feels good, you maybe 1/2 way home. Feeding and accuracy you find out first day shooting. If there is a problem a good dealer will handle the return to factory. Remington has become notoriously slow and hard to deal with. Yet, my Rem/H&R was repaired in a week with a new sight base. Dont know if it mattered or not for priority, but a local dealer took care of all that for me. I just sat back and waited.

Not all local dealers are created equal. A good one can make life much easier for the gun buyer.
 
My rossi 16" 44 mag seems to do best with really warm loads. Here is today's check of a new batch of Nosler 240 gr JSP's backed by 23.8 grs of H110 shot at 100 yds with a 50 yd zero.

 
I gave a Marlin 1894 in 44 and a Win 1894AE in 45 Colt that I gave to two of my sons. They worked great with cast and jacketed bullets and no jams.
 
hickok45 and others have pointed out that pistols are bored for .429 while some rifles and marlins are bored for .431. shooting lead pistol rounds in .429 are known to cause accuracy issues in .431 rifles.
