Lever Action?

tons of ammo, been around forever, WHY? (all-around)-Great Gun!!!!! I too, 100% for the 30-30. (Marlin or Winchester) both terriffic choices...

You guys are gonna hate me! Winchester 94 30-30. Real nice gun. A little wear from sitting in a sleeve to long, not fired much from what I can see. Just needs a little love.

The best part is, while eating breakfast with a good friend of mine, I mentioned my interest in a lever gun as my next purchase. To my surprize he says " I got one at home" We pay the bill and go back to his house to take a look at it. When I ask how much? My buddy says,"Take it, it's yours! I'd rather see you use it than just sitting in my closet!" Man Am I blessed, I was so happy I had to sit on both hands on the way home just to keep from wav'n at everybody! I can't wait to try this thing out!

J2, congratulations. Enjoy it in good health. A small investment in reloading tools will greatly multiply its versatility, if you are interested.

J2, That was TRULY a BLESSING indeed! Maybe a bit you got to reap of what you've sown??? I'm happy for you... I once had one of those and sold it for $70.00, will Regret a lifetime but oh-well. That was the past and I hope who ever has it now is really enjoying it. still have a Marlin mod 30 (30-30)that I started deer hunting with when I was about 8 yrs old. So many memories and dropped ALOT of deer. Love those lever-guns....:)

+1! You're a lucky dog!
I'll agree on the reloading- you can make just about anything you want out of a 30-30 for what your needs described with reloading equipment and a selection of reloading components. You can load 110gr round-nose carbine ammo, 125hp's, 130's, 150's, 170's, and a whole slew of cast-lead both plain and gas-checked at different power levels to suit your shooting requirements. Plus, it's a heck of a lotta fun!

When you have shot it some and have had time to really evaulate your new 30-30 please post to let us know if you think us 30-30 guys were right.

Yes, to say I am happy is an understatment! I will be shooting this weekend and will update every one. The gun will no don't perform well, and will be passed on to one of my kids some day! Thanks for all the kind words.

Happy Happy, Joy Joy :D

OJ's pic of the Williams sight gives a good view. I have the same thing on mine. Of course the standard sight is fine, I just prefer an apeture on the 30-30.

I just returned from a few hours of shooting with my two boys, Cody and Dylan. We had an absolute ball! We took a couple of 22's my Nagant and of corse the 30-30 Winchester. I have to say the gun feels like it's not even broke in yet. After a few shoots at paper to get the feel, I zeroed in on a gal. jug full of water. And exploded it right off. Left to right is dead on. I'll need some more time to learn the elevaton but I would be lying if I said I wasn't real thrilled with this piece! What a gun. My boys 15 and 9 both took turns with it also, and where all smiles! I'll clean back up and look forward to enjoying this one for a long time!

I would think first how far of a shot, what is the biggest size animal you would be shooting at, and then decide the caliber. I prefer rifle bullets for rifles just my feelings. For lever type guns Browning makes some nice one's. If your not to stuck on levers there are some nice bolts. I like the Ruger No 1's but they are single shots. You can do alot with them reloading. But first you need to figure out the range, size of animal, then the caliber.

I just wanted to say I am really enjoying this rifle! What a gun! Myself, a couple of friends and both my boys have taken a shoot with it. I am shopping for the Aperture site mentioned. Thanks for all the input.

I love the 30-30 round !!! But here in DE I can't use it . But my go lever actions are my Henry's 22 lr and my 22 Mag. For critter control and just wanting things dead I can't complain about the 22 Mag as most critters fox and coon sized animals are pretty much tractor trained and are not bothered by tractor noise and sometimes it like the dinner bell if you mow over a rabbit they will come in close. Some will say it is kinda light to use on yotes but if that is all you have I wouldn't think twice about using the mag. For the price you can't beat the Henry's and won't feel bad about it bouncing behind the seat and customer service can't be beat tho I've never had to use it.

You may also be able to find a Marlin in 32-20. That would be a good all around caliber for the uses you mentioned. I have a Browning 53 in 32-20, and love it. You can usually find 100, or 115 grain commercial ammo if you don't load your own.

Now you gotta start handloading--and make some light loads for the 30-30.

Good to see you have a Mosin, too. You're ready for bear, deer, coyotes, or rabbits.
