let's talk cfe223

I have to agree with 'Dirty', but more like soot, not hard carbon, pretty easy to clean.

Yep , I used it for the first time the other day . I was using it in a 223 Wylde Service rifle load development . The cases on the lower end of the charge spectrum came out REALLY sooty all the way to the extractor groove . It seemed to clean up at the higher charges .

I was testing AR-comp the same day with all the same other components .

69gr SMK
CCI #400 primers
LC-10 cases

Both powders seem to shoot there best group about the same size but AR-comp shot consistently smaller groups through out the charge weights . The other thing that was different when shooting CFE-223 was that my gun reacted different . "what does that mean"? It's hard for me to explain what I was feeling and hearing . For what ever reason my buffer spring had a more pronounced sound after each shot and the recoil felt more like a push then what I'm used to . If I had to guess I'd say I had just enough gas to work the BCG .

All in all it seemed fine with the VERY limited test I've done so far . I plan to try some 77gr smk with it and also run it in some 308 loads . On the other hand . I got such a good vibe from the AR-comp I bought 3 more pounds already .

I just ran some Hornady 75grain BTHPs pushed by CFE223 at the range.
As similar with above, it was for a 5.56 chambered, 1-8 twist, 16" non-chrome barrel AR15. I started with 25.5grs of CFE and moved through up to 27.0 grns. I got my best groups at 26.8 and 27.0 grns. The 75 BTHP were seated to 2.26" and the powder was lit by CCI 450s.

I wanted to chrono them, but it was too dark to register. :-( I will do that against some other time.
