That is one sexy rifle Picher,,,
What was entailed in making it a single-shot?

Was it just inserting a ramp/adaptor of some kind?

Remington sold single-shot adaptors that included a feed ramp and base plate cover for all the 540-581 box magazine models. I lucked onto a new kit on the 'net and bought it. The original magazine guide is removed.

Thanks for the info Picher,,,

I have a Plain-Jane Savage Mk-IIF I would like to find a single-shot adaptor for,,,
I have found one but it's ugly (bright colored plastic) and made in Australia.

Way too much money to buy it and have it mailed over here.

I think I'll try to fashion something from a spare magazine.

I'll post one Thursday when I get to a real computer.
Posting pics using my phone sucks.

Thanks Microgunner,,,

Now I know why I've never heard of them before,,,
It's one of those special breed precision rifles.

Interesting marks on the barrel,,,
Are they an indication of hammer forging perhaps?

Single shot .22s

I have a number of them.
A T/C Contender with both 16 and 20 inch barrels.
A Springfield M6 survival O/U.
A Savage copy of the old Stevens Favorite
A Feinwerkbau match rifle which I use for small bore prone matches.

I turned my Mk-II repeater into a Mk-I single-shot,,,

I have a Savage Mk-II bolt action that is mag fed,,,
I found a place in Australia that makes a single-shot adapter
I finally did the math and correctly converted US dollars to Australian dollars.

It seems I had the exchange rates mixed up.

So I ordered one of the single-shot adapters from Lowey Products in Australia.

They e-mailed me an invoice for $20.00 + $6.00 shipping + $1.04 PayPal fee,,,
That $27.04 price was in Australian dollars.

When I used PayPal it converted to $22.03 US dollars.
That was what I consider to be a Bargain.

I e-mailed the order on the 11th,,,
They sent me the invoice the next day,,,
I did the PayPal thing that same day of the 12th.

They Shipped it out on the 13th,,,
I received the adapter yesterday on the 21st.

Excellent communication from Debbie Lowey through all phases of the deal.

It is similar in size to a Savage 5-round mag,,,
I was delighted when I found I could order it in black,,,
Those bright colors reminded me too much of Lego building blocks. :p

You still have to put the nose of the bullet into the chamber,,,
But then the bolt pushes it completely into the chamber,,,
It's so very much easier with the adapter than without.

The adapter is well worth the total expenditure of $22.03 US dollars,,,
And now my friends kid can use the Savage in the youth program,,,
They were very adamant about needing that adapter.

So while it's not technically a single-shot,,,
It serves the purpose of one.

I give the Lowey Adapter a big thumbs-up!
