I am always curious about what people like and why when it comes to hand guns. So lets see what happens when we put a few head to head. OK here is how it works. I am going to give you 5 gun Manufacturers in 3 Specific Groups and you rank them in order of your liking. I.E. 1 being the best choice 5 being your least favorite. But you have to tell WHY your number 1 pick is TOPS in that category.

RULES:
No interjection or other comments on why a gun is not on a list.
If you have no experience on a gun listed put in 5th place.

OK HERE WE GO!!!

GROUP 1 : 1911's
Springfield Armory
Kimber
Rock Island
Para
Ruger

GROUP 2 : REVOLVERS
Rossi
S&W
Colt
Taurus
Ruger

GROUP 3 : SUB/COMPACTS
Walther
Para
Colt
Kimber
Springfield

REMEMBER ITS ALL IN FUN :)

Walther
Springfield
Colt
Kimber

well, I'll cooperate and not pick a fight.

No experience with 1911s. never owned either that or a sub compact. No opinions.

Revolvers?

S&W. reasons are the push forward cylinder release, fit, form, design, ergonomics, overall quality.

Ruger second. I think they are maybe a bit better in construction than my colts.

Colt third. I really dislike that cylinder release, lack of aesthetics and finish on the ones I own.

taurus have been copied off of smith, and are sort of like a smith factory second.

Rossi aren't worth my money. I'l spend more and get better. If a handgun isn't accurate, I will miss, and that puts me in a situation i don't like.

Sorry, fella. We don't delete threads because some members want to be a jackass and OPs have too thin skin. If someone is driving a thread off-topic, we have those little red triangles to report posts and we'll take a peek to see if action is warranted.

My choice

1911s- I own 2 Springfield 1911s, I can't afford a Kimber. I have ordered Ruger 1911, the others I have not handled. I like the feel of a 1911.

Wheel guns, Smith I own 3, 2 J frames 1 5/8 and 3' barrels and a K frame 4" barrel all 357s I have a ruger Blackhawk 44 mag. never owned a rossi, or a colt. Owned a taurus 357 with a 7" barrel not a bad gun just didn't feel right could never get a tight group when it shot it.

I have a springfield XD subcompact 9mm lt feels good in the hand. shoots very well. You forgot the Rugers. I have a 380 LRC I carry when i am running out for a quik trip to the corner store. don't own the others or handled them.

thse are in order of carry and one I like the best. I buy what I like what feels good in my hand and what shhot well. and what I can afford

This is how you play the game....

Your entry looks something like this:

Group 1:
Springfield Armory = I've always found their 1911s to be functional and reliable
Ruger
Para
Kimber
Rock Island

Group 2:
S&W = They made the Model 19 Combat Magnum, 586, 686 and 617 - what else is there to say?
Ruger
Colt
Rossi
Taurus

Group 3:
Walther= The PPS has the best trigger of any striker fired pistol IMO
Springfield
Colt
Kimber
Para

1911

Most of my experience is with Springfield and Kimber, none with the rest. The Springfield was ok and the Kimber was utter crapola.

Revolvers

1) S&W - Excellent quality/service
2) Ruger
3) Colt
4) Rossi
5) Taurus

The only experience I have with subcompacts in the category come from my 1911 experience. Also, by today's standards, I hardly consider a Ultra Carry or Micro a subcompact. I owned a P22 but it was nothing to write home about.

GROUP 1 : 1911s
Kimber--of the nearly 25 1911s I have owned, this is the only brand that has never given me heartache. Eight so far, one on my hip as I type this.
Para 75% success rate on four units.
Springfield Armory--0% initial success rate on three units, but their CS was good (and I had multiple occasions to use it).
Rock Island (Charles Daly)--Probably the worst single 1911 I have owned.
Ruger--no experience (yet). I've been "on the list" for several months.

GROUP 2 : REVOLVERS
S&W--again, almost 20 individual experiences, all positive.
Taurus--only one (M431) and it worked fine, but the difference in feel, fit and finish was noticeable.
Rossi--only one (M68), but it was total crap. It is in a lake now. I have posted that story before.
Ruger--no experience
Colt--no experience

GROUP 3 : SUB/COMPACTS
No experience with any of the listed models.

Group 1: 1911:
1. S.A.
2. Para
3. Ruger
4. R.I.
5. Kimber

Group 2: Rev.
1. Colt
2. S&W
3. Ruger
4. Rossi
5. Taurus

Group 3: Sub/Compact
1. Para
2. Springer
3. Walter
4. Colt
5. Kimber

Group 1 - I do not own and have no experience with any of the guns in this Group; therefore I must pass.

Group 2 - Smith & Wesson 686-1. I just bought this gun yesterday. I have handled it, drooled all over it, cleaned and polished the drool of of it but yet to fire it. Otherwise, I have not handled or owned any of the other guns in this category.

Group 3 - Ditto to my response for Group 1.
