let's open a new can of worms!

Happy birthday riddleofsteel.

If you don't have one, why not a nice old I frame s+w in .32 or .38? Use the left over dough to get a LOT of ammo or componants for your other pets and a first class dinner with your first class partner.

There is a kimber aluminum compact for sale, 2 days ago in the for sale section of this forum for $450. Only had 75 rounds through it. Good deal.

Call me crass, but now that I have been lured over to the dark side, I would get a Glock. I am quite fond of the 9mm cartridge, as a few of you know, and the G26 in particular. If you just can't see yourself getting the original "Pocket Rocket", and really pissing off o'l Chuck Schumer, and friends, then get a G19, or G17. :) :) :) :)

Oh BTW, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! :)

I TOO KNOW THE SUBLIME JOY OF GETTING A GUN FOR MY BIRTHDAY (SAID G26)

IMHO, if you want a 1911, check out the Wilson Combat KZ-75. Polymer framed 1911 with a 10 round mag and the grips are no thicker than stock 1911s.

If the Glock tempts you, how about a G32 mid-size Glock in .357 SIG. Big enough for a decent sight radius and barrel length, small enough to carry, and a round that centerpunches bad guys efficiently.

Dennis X2, MP FREEMAN, yeah baby. Get the Les Bear.Or Ed Brown Classic Custom.

Then again there is the Encore in 300 Win Mag :p

45ACP, we won both the big ones ;)

Kimber Classic Stainless

Full-size 1911. Invest in some nice rosewood grips while you're at it. Ambidextrous safeties are available aftermarket, and any competent gunsmith can install it for you for what should be a nominal fee.

I've been shooting IDAP for a few months now, and all the guys turning in the best times are shooting some variant of the 1911. Lots of Para-Ordnances as well as Kimbers. If you like "full capacity" firearms, consider the P14 (not the new LDA, but an "old" one) and scare up some 14-round magazines.

I own a Glock 21 and a G19 as well. Love them both, and you wouldn't make a mistake with either of them (or any Glock, for that matter). I do recommend the 3.5# trigger disconnect if you get any of them besides the G34 or G35 which come with that trigger group as standard equipment.

Forgot to ask: is this something you intend to carry, or is this a range/house gun?

If ya got the Bucks you won't go wrong with a Wilson..any Model , but particularlly the Millenium Protector..thats a sweet pistol..get the .45...or..If you are on a budget get a Glock 30..I saw one at a Gun Show last weekend for $485 brand new..(although the guy selling it looked like a shady character)...usually they go for about a hundred over that...

This is your birthday gun. It should be fun. The only fun Glock is the 10mm. It's different. Be the first on your block. It's also a solid round. It still smacks of "practical" though.

Other fun guns:
.454 Cassul: (depending on how open the bank is... I want one)
.44 magnum: sheer booming fun
Desert Eagle: Big, heavy and so un-PC it actually pisses off some gun owners
Kimber Stainless: the prettiest .45 so far.
H&K P7M8: one of the best handguns ever made. Get it nickeled.

My 2 cents:

Glock (any caliber) -- darn good, reliable guns.
Colt XS 1911 series -- AKA Kimber Killer, 'nuf said.
Hi-Power -- a true classis which may or may not be around much longer.

it seems that the 1911 is a hands down fav here. hay no big suprise! i have been wanting one for a long time now. it was acually the handgun i learned to shoot first. i have owned several over the years but about the time i get them like i want some guy with more money than sense waves money in my face.
i think i will get one that:
1. i can not afford to sell (invested too much or it is really special)
2. can be used for bullseye or IDPA ect
3. is easy to mantain i.e. stainless

my only quandry now is do i want a good basic gun to customize or bite the bullet and buy one of the new factory custom guns.

hum

I own Glocks, Berettas, 1911's, ect.... If you do not own a 1911 though, I would go for that, just to have a piece of John M. Browning in your shooting soul.

What I think is interesting is the new Wilson KZ-45 (I think). It retails for about a grand. Maybe you could pick one up for 8 or 9 hundred. Otherwise, I'd get a Kimber. Good Luck, J. Parker

You obscene gunowners ;) Don't waste your money on another gun you evil dude. Go offer a democrat woman 5 bucks for a fun night and live with the diseases for the rest of your life!

You could still buy a great gun thataway ;)
