let's open a new can of worms!

i have two gun permits in my pocket and a gun show coming up in a couple of weeks. my lips are dry and i am beginning to get that glazed look in my eyes that means a new gun(s) is coming home soon.
the only problem is that there are so many pretty faces out there. i do not own a 1911 or a Glock (i know, i just have resisted up until now). on the other hand my safe is stocked with Sig, Ruger, S&W, Dryse, and Colt revolvers.
last night my wife says "Look honey, the gun show falls on your birthday!" man i am getting weak here. then she says "Maybe you should buy yourself something!"

CHA CHING

i have got permission from the banker. but now what do i buy? i have been lusting after a Kimber. the full page centerfold in American Handgunner has not helped that. on the other hand i know a Glock of some kind would be a fine investment and a rock solid performer.
then there is the eternal debate .45 or 9mm or .357 Sig. (i have enough .40's thank you).
an'it it grand to have such problems?

FEEDBACK GUYS PLEASE!!

riddleofsteel; If I had a bunch of guns but no 1911 or Glock I would go with the 1911. I have a Glock and it ain't pretty or fascinating but it's one hell of a pistol! Go with the 1911, it'll be fun to own and you'll have a piece of history. Good Luck, J. Parker

Get a USP in .40 cal. Make it a full size because those USP Compact things just plain look bad. Aftermarket 357SIG barrels are available (I think).

Use the second permit for a SIG 226 in 357SIG. You can always add a .40 barrel later.

I have a Glock and a 1911. Get the 1911. Nothing against the Glock, I like it, but the 1911 is a classic and just feels and shoots right for me.

Glock 30 - the best of the polymers in .45 ACP. ;)

Kimbers are nice - but Springfields may be more to your liking if your handle is any indicator... forget aluminum frames. You want Steel. Stainless Steel. Nice shiney heavy Stainless Steel.
You want a .45... a Nice heavy shiney stainless steel .45.
You want nite sites... Big glowy dots... Ashley Express Big Glowy Dot sites on your big heavy shiney stainless steel .45...
You want Hougue Rubber Grips on your big shiney heavy stainless steel .45...

Now your getting sleeeeepy... Very sleeeepy...

Shhhhhh...

Now you want to send all your money to George so he can buy a big heavy glowy dotted shiney stainless steel .45... :)

Now, I'll snap my fingers...

Get the Kimber in stainless. They are the best bargains on the market. Since it's your birthday, get a .22 conversion for it too. You won't be sorry.

Yeah - but a lot of people in my neck of the woods have taken to Kimbers for the light weight frames and Springfield for the steel frames. I guess I am one of those people too.
Kinda like thinking Ruger for handguns and forgetting that Ruger makes a lot of rifles too.

My Bad.

Hey Riddle, are you in the Raleigh Durham area. A good gun shop is the Gun Room in Mebane, he has two or three custom Kimbers. But I will see you at the Dixie.

No gun collection is really complete without a 1911 and a Glock (A full sized Beretta might be the only other necessity; the classic 9mm). Both are excellent guns (although the antithesis of each other).

I'm gonna throw something out there you maybe didn't consider: the Para-Ordnance. It's got the classic style of the 1911, the big bore .45, and the double stack of the Glock. My stainless P13.45 may be my favorite gun.

If you can swing it with yer banker. ;)

Go for a Les Baer 1911. No sense in taking a lower road if you can get a Thunder Ranch Custom. Go for it. :)

buy something that you (if you decide that you don't like) would not mind owning forever. BECAUSE if you do not like it remember.........it's a "birthday present" and the "missus" even though she said to buy yourself something will always remind you of the gun she gave you for a present and then sold
hypothetically speaking!

riddleofsteel,

Have you got a Hi-Power? A classic worth checking out.

The Kimber CDPs are very nice and a lotta gun for the money. I especially like the Compact model.

Going with a Glock... consider the m17, the original with a couple of full cap mags.

All you guys are talking guns here... but the understanding wife is what intrigued me most ;o)

Ya gotta get a 1911,surprised you don't have one already. You can get a stainless Kimber Custom for about six and change. Do it,you won't be sorry.

How about something a little different. You could get a .45 Super from Ace for a thousand bucks on a Springfield piece. And they even tweek it for that price. Go take a look. www.acecustom45.com It shoots regular .45's too.(Full power loads) Just a thought.

To me, the real 45 auto is either a pre 70 Colt Government Model, or a genuine GI gun.
