Lets hear your AD Stories. Come on...Fess up!!

I own a Springfield Armory XD-40 and after shooting at the range the other day, I brought the gun home and cleaned it. After I was done, I tried to reload the pistol because I carry it everywhere. It refuse to load the first round into the chamber, odd I thought. Upon further investigation, realized that the round caught up on the striker. Holy ****! I'm glad it didn't load, my son was standing three feet away, and the striker was locked in the fired position. Springfield sent me a replacement striker, striker status indicator(which was bent as well), striker dampening spring, and the striker spring in three days. Wonderful customer service.

It's sad though....

I was about 12 and messing around with what was then my dad's 1911 in my bedroom. It was 101% definitely unloaded, so I "clicked" it at a squirrel that had come to investigate the window-box attached to my bedroom window. I was left with a vaporized squirrel, a ton of 'splaining to do, and a borderline OCD need to check a gun at least once before I handle it.
On the bright side, our closest neighbor was well out of pistol range.

Aren't accidents caused by negligence?

All good stories, and all to the point, each of them was not an accident, but a negligent discharge, due to failure to heed the rules.
I disagree. Accidents are unintended and/or unexpected events, often caused by negligence. Most of these cases of negligent discharges were accidents because none of us intended to fire our guns in a negligent way. When it comes to accidental discharges of a firearm, I am of the opinion that they are always caused by somebody's negligence, whether it was during manufacturing, maintenance, or operation. The only time I would make a distinction is when a person fires a gun on purpose in a negligent way, like firing in the air in celebration. That isn't an accident.

The man in that video had an unfortunate accident. Was there negligence? Yes. Did he mean to shoot himself in the leg? I sure hope not.
