Traffic stops

Man o man, in the 25years of working the streets, I loved people like Redneck. They added spice to the job.

Powderman: Your right on money.

How do you ascertain the vehicle has power windows and locks? My pickup doesn't and i have a difficult time reaching over to roll down the window.
TBS, I know many that couldn't reach the crank.

I was pulled over going through S Dakota on the way hunting, Trooper asked me where i was going and what for and all kinds of none of his business Q's. all of which i answered willingly, Still got the invitation to court for 8 over.
Makes me feel like @%&% for willingly answering questions that were none of his business. Now i have contempt for all Leo's.
So moral is "On a traffic stop, there could be a peckker head on either side of the window"

Granted,
Every Police Dept. has a pecker head or two. But when two pecker heads get together, the one with the badge usually wins. Put the odds in your favor and cooperate. If you have a problem with the way the stop went down, talk to a supervisor. But don't waste any of their time by saying you didn't like the Officers body language or his attitude. Have something specific to say that you thought was improper conduct. Once you have started to jack the officer around, you have issued a challange to him to make a counter move. In the end, you lose.

You could end up going to jail for "No gloves in the glove compartment" or "Carrying a concealed rape tool". Me, I like doing it the easy way and cooperating. If the ticket is C S, go to court and fight it.

Somehow, I get the feeling that Redneck's wakeup call to how reality works is going to come in the form of a closeup examination of asphalt or a cruiser's hood when he tries to "express himself" like that. :D
I've got some of the best lawyers in my area on speed dial.

Ooooo. You can get their answering service and leave a message in the bottom of the box! Not the same thing as retainer, there...

Actually, this is a very good point. Unless the officer is already at the window, leaning over to roll down the window could look like someone is reaching in the glove box for a gun.

When I get stopped at night, I usually roll down my window right away and either put my hands on the steering wheel or on the door sill. When the officer approaches, I inform him or her that I have a weapon in the vehicle and a concealed carry license. I then ask if they would like to remove the weapon since it is easily within my reach. My form of carrying would be illegal without a permit since it is not in an enclosed box with a snapped holster or zippered bag. Most officers have just asked me where it is and told me to leave it there. I think only one officer has actually removed it and several even cut me a break and did not write me a ticket.

A lot of it has to do with your demeanor and attitude. I've encountered a few of the "high school bullies turned cop" but that is the exception rather than the norm. If you treat all cops like jerks, they will most likely play the part. Redneck, you know your rights and you have your attorney... but why not try a little courtesy and simplify your life?

BillCA,
That story was funny as crap. Its not that I don't feel sorry for the officer, but still... :D

I'm a big fan of the passenger side stop. If I'm fairly certain the vehicle doesn't have a power windows, i.e. Pinto, Gremlin, I'll use the driver's side approach. Personal preference.

Well, any Attorney worth his Porshe will see to it that the next badge that cop wears is plastic and says "Mall Security".
Jeez Red, you pay taxes don't you? Why don't you just fire the nosy cop on the spot and save yourself the expense of a high dollar attorney.

Good cops are like extra money and free time.... they're very hard to find.

When only 1 of 10 experiences with cops turns out to be a good one, can you really blame people for not liking them? I know the response... but don't assume everybody that is questioned/detained is guilty of anything wrong.

Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to be doing anything wrong to get into trouble.

Why is it that every time a complaint is made about cops, people automatically think the person wasn't polite to the cop? Being rude is legal. Abuse of power is not.

All in all, I dont trust the guys in blue.

Seems like a lot of people on this forum don't like or trust Police Officers until they need one to put his/her life on the line for their family or themselves. I feel sorry for those of you with bad experiences that tend to paint all LEOs with the same brush. My experience has been mostly positive in my lifetime (unless I was doing something to call their attention to me, i.e., speeding).

A college friend of mine was arested with 13oz. of pot.

Funny how many people with a jaded opinion of our Law Enforcement Officers seem to make sure we know why they may be jaded.

While LEOs are human and we will always find a few bad apples (may be one around Canton, Ohio from the news the last couple days) I APPRECIATE ALL THE LEOs RISKING THEIR LIVES DAILY TO PROTECT MY RIGHTS AND MY FAMILIES. Thanks so much to all the fine LEOs in the good old USA!

13oz is nearly a pound. Considering how light the stuff is, it IS a dried leaf, that's quite a bit. That's more on the order of "dealer", not "personal use".

Well, when this thread started, it was interesting in a positive way.

Then it got interesting in a negative way.

Closed for the downhill slide.

Redneck, you have mail.
