"Legitimate Authority"

Some very insightful answers here. One problem I see with our tri- partite system, IMO, is the fact that the Judicial branch, once appointed, answer to no-one. They are basically political appointments by an Executive branch, approved by the Legislative; all of whom are answerable to the citizens via the elective process , yet the judges are there until they choose to retire. Therefore we are under the interpretation of justices who may not represent what some consider just or legal, but intead stand for an ex-executive agenda.

Sending it back to the top for one more day's run to see if there's any more input. Essay's due Thursday so I won't send it back after that.

I'm no constitutional scholar, so forgive me my ignorance but the Supreme Court CAN be impeached. So therefore, they answer to Congress and the people via their representatives.

Thank you Art for clarifying the source of Congressional authority on toilet tank size. It demonstrates how a weak Supreme Court has allowed Congress to run amock in the application of its authority. So a toilet tank travels interstate is pretty tenuous. That's why I've advocated for an Amendment to fix the number of justices to its present size (it removes the FDR threat of stacking the Court).
