Legality of self defense: Shooting a coyote in city

I would shoot a coyote on sight, whether in the city limits or not.
They have become a pest animal with population growing every year.

My Minpin got into a fight with one this summer after she jumped it while it was sleeping not 150 yards from our house.
By the time I got the rifle out of the safe it was long gone.

The Minpin gave as well as she got. I saw her bite the coyote and saw her get bite. They split with a yelp and she came running home.

I hear them every night. I just picked up a used .308 for the sole purpose of shooting them on sight. It could turn out to be fun.:D

The critter could be rabid, otherwise it would not be atttaking a full-grown human. Better call police or animal controll or game and fish.

Don't call the police. Animals (four legged) aren't their job. Call Animal Control/Fish&Game. You city folks may have to look up the number.:D

IF someone else calls the police, deal with them, politely. But don't bother them yourself. They have better things to do.

As Tam pointed out, once rabies takes hold, there is NO CURE. It is a death sentence. Don't risk it.
