Leaving a gun in the car 365 days?

A car or truck gun to me, is a gun that can't go everyplace I can go...But, it does not live there on a permanent basis... But just hangs out there when it can't.

My neighbor leaves his Colt Detective in his truck. It is very rusty and pitted. It is a newer model and used to be a nice gun. So much for keeping gun in your truck or car. Besides weather related problems, my truck has been broken into and items stolen (Buck knife) When I carry, my pistol stays with me and stays in the house at night.

IMO some of the stupidist criminals are auto burglars. Leaving a gun in your car could help get a good person shot.

Also kids regularly pillage through my car.

Summer temp's in Phoenix can reach near or at 120*F, and I hate to think of what they reach inside a locked car with the windows up. When I lived there, I'd crack the window just a tiny bit, just to be sure pressure didhn't build up in the vehicle.

I didn't leave a gun in the vehicle overnight, simply because of thieves, but I did keep one in the glove box all day, every day when I was working. In fact, when working in "rough" areas, I added a short-barreled Moxxberg riot gun behind the seat.

And temps were never a concern to me. I grew up in the desert, and I've always done a lot of shooting. I've never had a problem with it.

There are a bunch of all stainless steel guns that would be perfectly fine sitting in a car 365 days a year. I have an AMT .45 Backup - leave it in the car occasionally - heat well over 100 degrees, cold into the 20's - no problem at all. My Glock had no problem with this either.

My truck gun was a Ruger 10/22. It was there constantly for almost 20 years. Came in handy on more than one occasion. It was NOT on a window rack, I think that is tacky. It was on a rack below the rear window behind the seat out of sight but handy.

I have kept a Kahr PM9 in a V-Line safe that is secured by cable to the frame of my seat in my truck for the last 5 years or so.

I 50/50 on a gun left in the car.

Half- if it's stolen and used it's my fault
Half- god forbid I need to use my EDC and need more I would want a car gun.

I have carried a smith model 65 in my truck for the last three years. Before that it was my gun of the month that stayed in the truck.

I test fired it last sunday with the ammo that has been it for at least two years. The loads in the cylinder fired just fine and so did the 18 rounds in the ammo wallet kept in the glove box.

I live in a low crime area and don't worry too much about a break in. Besides it will take some looking to find it. After watching Reginald Denny get pulled from his truck and hit in the head with a brick during the L.A. riots I ain't goin' nowhere without a gun handy.

It would have to hit over 400 degrees inside a vehicle for a round to go off, if it's 400 inside your car you have bigger problems :D

I don't normally keep one in my car because of concerns of (1) condensation/rust, (2) theft, and (3) if another member of my family drove my car, they could be criminally charged with carrying concealed without a license. Please don't tell me they should each get one because it's not going to happen.

I carry a gun on my person and stow it in the car if I am going to enter a designated "gun-free zone."

The only issue I would worry about is theft, which was already said can be stolen from anywhere else like your own home.

If you have a car/truck gun then it should be legal in your state to carry a firearm in your vehicle anyway so a friend/family member cant get in trouble (unless your state laws are different). Weather should not adverserly affect your firearm if its stored properly.
