Least Expensive Pocket/Mouse Gun?

I agree save up another $100 and then more options open up in the used gun market.

Re. the cz82- I love mine for CC but definitely not a pocket gun even in the jacket pocket at least for me.

The Davis 22m derringer are still readily available on the used market.I paid $50 for mine some 20 years ago.A quick google found a number available. This little gun doesn't have a cylinder to barrel gap and is surprizingly powerful. It is also the only pistol I have fired in a situation.Current prices seem to run around $100.I have retired mine , in favor of a NAA 22m,giving up some power for the five shot capacity.

Well duh. If one wants to spend $300-$400 the field is wide open and the question of which one becomes largly an exersize in presonal taste.

Frankly, I'm suprized no one has mentioned any revolvers. No H&R, Iver Johnson or similer fans out there?

Actually several revolvers were mentioned, but since you already had an idea of what you were looking for, why didn't you just do a little more legwork and search gunbroker.com?

I have an old Rohm .38 special derringer that I bought for $70 years ago that I love very much. If it still functions 43 years after it was made and is still reliable, then how much better must the new Cimarron derringer be? I also bought a jennings .22lr for $40 that has never failed to chamber and fire. the newer versions currently available must be at least as good. You will be hard pressed to find a "real" gun for the money you mention but a "maypop" can easily be had for that price. As far as being safe with a chambered round is concerned, the venerable 1911 colt .45 is reputed to be prone to accidental discharge, and there is no finer weapon. Personal safety is more reliable than a mechanical safety.

Just about the only reliable pocket pistol in that range is the NAA mini-revolver in .22 mag. At $200 new it shouldn't be too hard to find a used one for around $150.

I would probably carry a pocket knife over any other pocket pistol I can think of in that price range.

Save up a little more or look used. I would look at the Keltec P32 or a used Taurus M85UL.

As for a finisher, just use a knife. That is what I do. I tried use a 9mm to finish a deer and it didn't work very well - as in quick. Since then I have used a knife.

+1 for the P32, I have two of them and they are excellent for pocket carry. I load both of them up with 7+1 of Fiocchi .73gr FMJ for both me and my wife. I also have a blue steel Taurus 85 .38spl that I keep next to the bed for any of those nightime unwanted visitors (not relatives just bad guys) :D

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Hi Point handguns.

Low price, good design but a gun best shot sparingly.

Still, not alot of hate e mails about the actual performance of the guns.

naa

I would strongly reccomend the NAA's in .22 lr or Mag. You might spend a bit more then 150 but they are good shooting guns and very reliable. Tiny and easy to carry. Not the best choice for SD but lots of bang for your buck in small package.

Sorry, guess the part about POCKET guns got missed, eh???......;):D

The cheapest ones you are going to find new (or used, for that matter) are the cheapest guns. Jennings, Raven, Lorcin, etc. Or an old and much used revolver, top break in a puny caliber most likely. In essence, the quintessential "Saturday Night Special".

These are guns that most of us won't touch with a 10 foot pole. Cast potmetal frames and many parts, low powered, unreliable (but not always), heavy triggers, virtually no sights, etc....

I have a Jennings .22 that rarely makes it through its 6 rnd mag without a jam. But I am confident that the first round (manually chambered) will go bang when I pull the trigger. And considering that the majority of armed confrontations are resolved without firing a shot, having a cheap POS pocket gun is better than having no gun.

The .25acp is not well thought of as a fight stopper, and for good reason. The .22LR is better, ballistically, and ammo is much cheaper. However, the .25acp with its fmj bullet generally feeds reliably. Looking at the cheapest pocket autos, generally speaking, the .25s work, the .22s work if they feel like it. Any .32 is better, and some of them can be found pretty cheaply, if you look around a bit. I recently got a nice Savage model 1910 .32 acp, for $250. It was made in the 1920s, and is a little big for a pocket gun, but not drastically so. 10 shots quick.

The basic fact of life today is that you aren't going to find a decent gun new, for the kind of money you are talking. You might find a decent gun used for that price, but its not likely. Unless you find a private seller who either has no idea of the market prices, or needs cash quick, any pocket pistol for $150 is going to be low quality, and likely to be just overpriced junk.

That said, I carry my POS Jennings in a pocket sometimes, particularly when I don't expect to need a gun. They will all kill, and bad guys aren't likely to know your gun is crap, only that you have one. And that just might make all the difference.

You might get lucky and find an incredibly good deal somewhere but I wouldn't count on it. As was mentioned before, save another $100 bucks and you will have more options. You should be able to pick up a used 38 special snubbie in the $250 range

I am in the same boat as you, Iowa going shall issue and most of my guns are full size. I too have a Raven 25 that has never failed to shoot factory or reloads( yeah bought a set of dies years ago at a garage sale...cheap). A jennings 22 also. Would carry either one as a last resort. I have to agree with some of the other guys here, save to get into the mid $200 range. I just bought a new Ruger LCP today at the Cedar Rapids gun show for $259 + tax. In Iowa that's $277.13 out the door. From what I hear, this gun should be a much better choice for ccw than what I had. I did buy a Taurus PT145 a couple weeks back, small for a .45, but too big for a pocket carry gun. The LCP fits perfectly.

Good choice on the LCP hawkeye. Many of my leo friends carry them for backups and off duty pieces. Sometimes you can pick up a used NAA Guardian in that price range to if you are in the right place at the right time. I have one its a very nice gun and very very reliable.

I have gotten one used Kel-Tec P32 on Gunbroker and another on Auction Arms for right around $150. I also found an NAA mini in 22 mag for $142 at a pawn shop. Both of the P32s and the NAA have been very reliable. I have pocket carried all three. Sometimes all at the same time. :D I also had an HP22 that was reliable. Phoenix also makes an HP25 if you prefer centerfire.

Ok, so fire away. What's the least expensive and RELIABLE pocket gun out there that is safe to carry with a round in the chamber. New or USED, Any caliber and don't be afraid to recommend a rimfire for I've never experienced rimfire issues using quality ammo. Let's set the max at $150. Possible?

THAT will really limit your choices.

. Are you asking a question, or giving us a quiz?

Those days are gone...

I saw Phoenix Arms in .25 this weekend for $125 at a gun show.

For under $200.00 I would recomend a PA-63 in 9mm Mak.

Close to a pocket gun, light, good cal. Do a spring job down the road.

You may find one closer to $150.00. This is the minimum "cheap" gun I would recommend for defense.

This is my pocket gun. Price was under $200 at a gun show with 400 rounds of ammo, and an Uncle Mike's #2 pocket holster thrown in. It will fit in the pocket of most of my jeans, with the exeption of tight fitting cowboy cut Wranglers. It fits in the pocket of my jacket with no problems at all. It is reliable to the point of after more than 2,000 rounds it has not given me a single problem at all. Size, and look are simmilar to a Walther PPK. ( It is a tad bit bigger.)
P-64 chambered in 9mm Mak.

If you shop around you can find them in the $150 to $185 range with a leather holster, and spare magazine. They run in the $200 range on the high end.
