Least Expensive Pocket/Mouse Gun?

Ok now, bear with me here. Iowa just became a shall issue state at the first of the year and my permit is getting picked up today. All my handguns less one are not sized very well for CC let alone pocket carry. Now to tell you the truth I don't need to CC and generally got my CC for hunting and transport reasons but still I'd like to have something small to toss in the pocket on occasion. As much for a "finisher" while hunting but also for occasional CC..

Ok, so fire away. What's the least expensive and RELIABLE pocket gun out there that is safe to carry with a round in the chamber. New or USED, Any caliber and don't be afraid to recommend a rimfire for I've never experienced rimfire issues using quality ammo. Let's set the max at $150. Possible?

LK

BTW, looked at the Cimarron Derringers and they just aren't for me.

Let's set the max at $150.

THAT will really limit your choices.

For it's size and price, the Ruger LCP does a nice job, but it will be twice your max amount. You might find a used Beretta .22 for that price.

I just found a yugoslavian mini-tokarev pocket pistol in .32acp for a tad more than $150 on gunbroker...im across the river in IL so no plans of it ever being in my pocket, but it was too cool to pass on. I dont think you're gonna find any new guns for that price, but the oldie-but-goodies are out there..

You said reliable so I will not recommend a rimfire gun. Save up another $100 and you will be able to find some very nice pocket guns in the $250 range.

Sorry, but your desires and your funds are incompatible. You need to save a while longer and then start looking. Maybe a Kel-Tec P3AT.

just my .$02

Choosing somthing to defend your life (possibly) is not one of those things in life that should be chosen based on the lowest bidder.

"Do I hear a penny? Penny, Penny, Now a Penny over Here! Yo! Pocket Lint! Anybody-give-me-Pocket Lint? Pocket Lint, Pocket Lint, Pock-Yey! Pocket lint Over there. Now DrySpit, Dryspit, Dryspit.... anybody Gimme-ah Dryspit? Dryspit, Dryspit, Dryspit? Do I hear Dryspit? Dryspit going Once! Dryspit Twice? Dryspit??????? Sold! for Pocket Lint to the man in the clownsuit......"

To get anything halfway decent in that price range, you're pretty much looking at the used market. Once in a great while, you can find a decent little .22 or .25 Auto like a Beretta 950 for $150-200 used, but those deals are becoming few and far between. About the best you're going to find in a new gun is a Kel-Tec P32 for $200-300.

Polish P-64 (9mm Makarov).
Had one but sold it. With spring replacement, DA is tolerable and SA becomes very light.
Maybe a little too big for pants pocket carry but maybe ok in the jacket.

You might be able to pick up a CZ-82 for $150 to maybe $175, although that's a little large for a pocket pistol it's concealable....but 9mm Mak is a little on the low end for defensive carry...or at least some think so. I've got a Kel-Tec P-11 that I picked up for $150 that's a great pocket carry pistol (but I don't like shooting it at the range)..but that was a good deal and one of those will probably run you at least $200 these days, Kel-Tec replaced those with a PF-9 I think but I don't know what the prices on those are these days but not over $250 I believe.

As much for a "finisher" while hunting but also for occasional CC..

Even if used for the coup de grace, the gun must still meet your state handgun hunting requirements. I'd guess that is at least a .357 or larger depending of course on the state.

With that said, if a .357 is legal to hunt with in your state, I doubt you'll find a "reliable" pocket gun for that price.

I'd suggest researching the handgun hunting laws in your state and then saving up some coin. $150 isn't going to get you much but perhaps a used Ruger SP would be where I'd start looking.

Taurus TCP, love mine. I have had no issues. The right ammo is important with these short cycle pocket autos. Go with ammo with some punch. S&B, Fiocchi as a min. Cor Bon better. Stick with round nose jacketed. Some HP's are ok, but you have to experiment with them. As with some other small autos (PPK/S), the HPs don't always feed well. And, don't eject well unless the load has some poop! Limp wristing can be an issue also.

Find a used NAA .22 Long Rifle Mini-Revolver. MSRP is $200.00 new.http://www.naaminis.com/lrifle.html

I don't know if I'd consider them "pocket" guns, but they could be used for CCW...P-64, Makarov, CZ-50, CZ-70, CZ-83, PA-63, or Bersa, maybe?

The Keltec P32 is one of the nicest pocket guns made, for many reasons.
Unfortunately, it runs more than your budget. Save up another $100 and look at one.
BTW- Keltec did not "replace" the P11 with the PF9. They still make both models.

A strict $150 limit for a pocket gun is just gonna leave you with very few options if you're to buy new. I'm not a gun encyclopedia, but I can think of just three current production pocket guns you can get new for $150 or less.

1. Jimenez Arms JA-22. 22lr semi-auto pistol, small, kinda cute. Generally lousy reputation, but supposedly the latest incarnation of these is quite improved from the previous generations. I see these sold for about $119 locally

2. Phoenix Arms HP-22. Both a lot of good and bad has been said about this one. Phoenix as a manufacturer has a lousy reputation. This gun has got some really annoying magazine safety switch. Usually $140-$150

3. Cobra Arms Derringer. Comes in multiple calibers. I actually have one of these in .22lr. It works well, seems durable, and it's tiny. The larger caliber ones are generally not well-liked, have more durability issues, and of course, are bigger/heavier. The biggest problem is that it's a very impractical design (I only got it as a novelty/range toy). Low ammo capacity, very poor accuracy, heavy trigger all make it a very sub-standard choice for self-defense.
$120-$150 depending on caliber

I'm sorry but I can't think of any good answers to your question. You best bet would either get lucky at an auction or save a few more bucks. A Hipoint 9mm would probally be your best bet but it's too big for pocket carry.

Thanks for some of the responces. Some of them I've already thought of, others ideas were new to me.

The CHEAPEST would probably be the most often-used guns in crimes- a Raven .25. I wouldn't reccomend them.
You'll notice in my original thread that all my guns were not pocket guns less one....want to guess what the one pocket gun I have is? Hey, it was a gift years ago.
A Hipoint 9mm would probally be your best bet but it's too big for pocket carry.
Like I said, I have other guns but none that are acceptable pocket guns. The Hi-point is definetly not pocket gun. Either is a full size marakov.
Phoenix .22
Had an HP and it would fill the role. I can't recall have a reliability issue with mine but I've heard of others having issues.

For big game you may be right. But I wasn't talking big game nor did I mention it. More for coyotes, fox and maybe coon.
THAT will really limit your choices.
Well duh. If one wants to spend $300-$400 the field is wide open and the question of which one becomes largly an exersize in presonal taste.

Frankly, I'm suprized no one has mentioned any revolvers. No H&R, Iver Johnson or similer fans out there?
