"Slavery was not officially abolished until the 1863, during the Civil War."
This isn't the first time I've seen this printed. This is not true. Do people not know history or are they just illiterate? Maybe both. What was there in 1863 that abolished slavery? Some will quickly say the Emancipation Proclomation. However, it did not ban slavery. It only affected states rebelling against the Union. Anyone who doesn't believe this should go read it (if they can read). Slavery was not abolished by the United States until 1865 when the 13th Amendment was ratified.
Interestingly enough, the war started in 1861. The Emancipation Proclomation and the Gettysburg Address were in 1863 (which did NOT abolish slavery). The 13th Amendment was made after the Civil War was over.
If the Emancipation Proclomation abolished slavery as some would like to believe, why was it done after the war was already going on for two years?
One would think if the war was over slavery that slavery would have been abolished and then a war occur if the "other side" didn't like it, but it was the other way around. There was a war, and then slavery was abolished.
Did slavery have anything to do with the war? Yes, but it definitely didn't cause it.
I guess it doesn't matter what the subject is. Guns, slavery, taxes, etc. History is ignored and myths are propogated by groups with certain agendas.
