Latest Lunacy from La-La Land

"Australians all let us rejoice for we are young and free. . . ."

"Freedom" is like "Rights", Especially those like Democrats want you to have "patient's rights" or "air traveller rights" while depriving you of free exercise of your natural rights to provide them.

E.g. "Right to minimum wage" means depriving you of freedom to work for someone for less if you mutually consent.

Hitler was big into freedom. He wanted to make the world "free from Jews" (puke).

I feel for you Bruce. What a crock.

What happened to the Independent Spirit in Australia? Weren't you guys once all indentured servants, debtors and criminals. Seems that gene pool would yield folks with some cajones. Hopefully we aren't headed down the same path, but I fear the worst.

Resurrected for an update:

The business owner has been charged by the police that "he discharged a firearm to the danger of, or in a manner to cause fear to, the public or any person".

This offence carries a fine of $2000 and/or 12 months' in prison.

In the Perth Magistrate's Court yesterday (26 July) the owner pleaded not guilty and elected to go to trial. He said there was no dispute over the facts of the case -- but rather whether or not he had a "lawful excuse" for firing the shotgun.

The court case has been set for 14 November.

Bruce,

Is there any word of a "Leagal Fund" being set up for this gentleman?

I'm sure that, along the lines of the Maddi-Griffin incident, a lot of us Yanks would be eager to help out in our own modest way.

To paraphrase Ben Franklin, we either stick together or we hang sepparately.

What's up with the law favoring and protecting criminals more than law-abiding citizens? Do these people have no sense of right and wrong?

I used to want to go visit Australia and Europe (and California!), but not anymore, too scary, to opressive (even for this Mormon boy! ;) ), too NWO. And I don't want those governments getting any of my money! I'll just go to the local zoo, thanks.

Sheesh!...

Seronac: I'm from Australia (live in Texas) and will probably get sucked into visiting relatives at the end of this year.

I don't relate well to hardcore socialist deadheads. Forgive me for saying this, Bruce; but you know I'm right (politicians are elected by people who agree with them) but in Australia and Europe that's pretty much everybody (albeit the .01% like yourself).

The closest to a "good ole boy" is someone who can get drunk and flood you with union propoganda and complain about the government - not giving more handouts.

Sernoac:

It's worse than you think - you pay a "departure tax" for leaving Australia (even as a tourist). It's because the rest of the world's so much better, they charge admission :)

I would encourage you to spend your resources on a fight more local - no offense but this guy with his "automatic shotgun" is going to lose the case.

I recently got an article from the Townsville Bulletin with a guy who kidnapped and raped a little kid (and got 2 years less than having an unlicenced crossbow) - I'll bet the rapist will get better press/less public condemnation than the guy with the autoloading shotgun.

If he's lucky he'll pay the $2000 and just do probation/communityservice and not do cell time.

I grew up in Texas (Dallas area), now live in Utah. I miss the Lone Star State sometimes, but not in JULY! To dang hot AND humid!

It's amazing that they charge tourists to LEAVE Australia. Sheesh. Buncha' socialist crackpots! Sure, we have our problems here, but it's still the best country in the world.

God Bless the USA!

Thanks,

I can now sleep at night, knowing that this maniac with a "semi-auto assault" shotgun is off the streets. Who knows what he could have done with his assault weapon, he could have gone to a *gasp* school, or a retirement home.
Why should he be able to defend his property? Don't you know that it's not the criminals fault they do it.

Seronac, this non Morman agrees 100% with you. Australia has always been one place I always wanted to spend some time since a college buddy of mine was from Sydney. Boy, could that guy drink beer. I thought no one could beat him until I went to South Africa a few times. The women there could put him under the table.

But I digress. Australia is off my top 10. Is New Zealand any better? Heard some nice things tourist wise about it.

"UNLICENSED CROSSBOW" You have got to be kidding! And to think I once wanted to immigrate to Oz (back in the early 70's). I'd be doing 10 consecutive life terms by now if I'd gone. You poor b*****ds are property now, not citizens. Where is Ned Kelly when you need him?

Seronac: I'm from North Queensland in Australia - it's in the tropics, Texas is not - mostly when I moved to Texas I was troubled by how COLD it is (Coldest I'd ever seen in OZ is 13 CELCIUS ABOVE freezing). The plus is that I can pack the big stuff during summer w/ sleeved cover garment/jacket without too much discomfort - besides, I'm usually cold, they crank the airconditioners up something awful!!

Penalty in (at least QLD) for an unlicenced crossbow is 12 years.

NZ is practically Australia - not like Canada and USA's relationship; but the two countries have the same parties, and their citizens can move between them and even collect welfare/dole without impediment - they tend to pass laws/do policy in unison. Anything you would dislike about OZ would hold for NZ.
