While gage s not the preferred spelling, it is a variant of guage. From Merriam Webster's

"gage vs. gauge
There are two gages: one refers to pledges or securities and is no longer in common general use, and the other is a variant spelling of gauge, which in the noun form refers broadly to measurement (“fine-gauge wire”) or a standard by which something is measured (“polls are a good gauge of how voters might vote”). The earliest evidence we have for the noun gauge goes back to the 15th century, when English spelling was not yet standardized, and the word in question was spelled gauge and gage with roughly equal frequency. Gauge began to be preferred in the late 19th century for most general uses. Some claim that gage appears as a variant more frequently in the U.S., though our evidence shows that the vast majority of uses for gage are from specialized and technical industries, such as mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and electronics, and that these uses of gage are global, not limited to the U.S. Nonetheless, total use of the word gage is small when compared to the total use of the word gauge.

The verb gauge, which refers to measuring or estimating, also has a variant gage. This variant appears to show up primarily in informal sources, though not often. Gauge is by far the preferred spelling in general usage for both the noun and the verb; we encourage you use it."

I recently found a lot of LC-14 308 brass to be softer then other LC brass i use . Although there H2o volume is only .3gr a off . The LC-14 brass using duplicate loads can't be loaded to the same charge as the other LC brass by 1.5gr or 120fps less or i get sticky bolt lifts.

So although I use some mixed year lots in 223 . I can't agree that they are all pretty much the same . I'll say there are all likely the same but they might not be .

Ron, I was of the same thinking, but had to look it up and found that it as a variant.

I am in my mid 60s and still like to learn something new every day!

One more thing as someone who has worked with gauges for a good portion of his life the word is gauge and not gage;
What does gage mean? Gage is defined as something given as security against an obligation; a pledge.

Bring a sufficient gage or don’t bother coming along.
His car acted as a gage for the bank.

What does gauge mean? Gauge, as a noun, is defined as a standard dimension, quantity, or capacity.

This looks like 30 gauge steel.
We took our 12-gauge shotgun hunting.
A gauge is also a type of measurement tool, such as a tire gauge, a pressure gauge, a fuel gauge, an oil gauge, etc.

The air gauge says your tire pressure is 35 PSI.

If you plan to use the word at least try and get the correct use and spelling.
</EDIT>

I could say I can not believe your are that desperate for attention, I am convinced and I believe it is beyond being petty.

If there was such a thing as ‘talking it to death’ I would say you won.

I have a few machinery handbooks; one is the Eighteenth Edition of the MACHINERY’S HANDBOOK; Eighteenth Edition, Fourth Printing, 1970. The first edition was printed in 1914. The book from the beginning has been very consistent; the word for gage has been gage.

And then there is my ‘Starrett Book for Student Machinist’; Copyright 1941, by 1945 60,000 had been printed with 4 editions. Starrett used the word gage with no apologies and no one put them on a guilt trip.

And then before the student machinist book came ‘The Starrett Data Book for Machinist’; Copyright 1920. The book used the word gage. I also have an old catalog from the 1920s that list their tools and prices, all of the tools in Starrett’s book are listed as gages.

So? I will go with Starrett, Eric Oberg and F. D. Jones.

And then there is this other book, John L. Hennant published a book called; THE COMPLETE ILLUSTRATED GUIDE TO PRECISION RIFLE BARREL FITTING. In one of his illustrations he drew a go-gage, and there it was ‘go-guage’. And then there is his quote; “AND GOD BLESS TEXAS”.

OK and leave me out of your all inclusive reloaders. If there is an attention whore it would be the one forever taking threads off topic. Thank you and have a nice day. :)
