'Knife culture' the next big thing

A slippery slope argument of the most absurd kind.

Yes, the formal logicians LOVE to heap scorn on the slippery slope argument.

But it happens. It happens a lot.

That's really what the first line of my sig is about.

Where do you guys hang out to get such outlandish reactions?

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the reactions occur at work when I whip out the Kershaw to open boxes. Slightly bugged eyes, but not really freaking out. Nobody backs away from me or anything.

:p

The only reactions I get when I let someone use the Sebenza or Commander that I carry every day are of the "Wow! Cool Knife!", "How much do those cost?" and "How did you open that so fast?" variety. That's what I like about the South. :D

(It took me nearly fifteen minutes to get my Commander back from the FedEx guy at work one morning while he tried to master using "The Wave." )

No one has asked to fondle my Kershaw! I also have Kershaw onion, and someone at work actually said she had one just like it! I was stunned, shocked and amazed! I'm going to have to invite her to the range for some shooting. There are a couple of my friends at work who have said they'd enjoy going to the range with me to shoot. I'll have to invite them out before the rainy season starts. I've couple a couple of .22 pistols to start them out with. Don't want to hand them the .44 to start with. ;)

Apparently, I have been on the thin edge most of my life having carried at least one knife in my pocket for the last 40 some odd years. No one not carrying a knife can begin to appreciate how useful they are and how often you find a need for one. I've three now if you count the blade on the mini-tool on my key chain. One of those, doubly horrid to present day liberals, has the Boy Scout emblem on the side and TWO blades. Does that make it an assult knife or is number of blades not a criterion?

Assault knives????

An assault knife would have any two of the following characteristics:

  • A blade more than 1" in length
  • Cammo bolsters
  • A parkerized or blackened blade
  • An edge with both straight and serrated cutting surfaces
  • The seal of any Armed Service on a bolster
  • Finger grooves in the grip
  • The capability of being opened with one hand

I think we can all see how much more dangerous than the usual knife such things would be. Only the most depraved, vicious, savage, uncouth, rednecked, bloodthirsty, psychopathic, unclean, ill-educated, warped, right-wing gun loon would carry one. They are made with only one purpose in mind: to slaughter innocent people.

This kind of dog vomit passes for serious thought in liberal circles.

'Liberal' / 'Conservative' are fairly meaningless terms.

Both stereotype states, for instance Texas and California have laws against knuckle dusters, switch blades and the dreaded ninja gear.

Feel free to correct me if i'm wrong but don't you need a permit in Tejas for a ASP style baton?
