4006 - Welcome to TFL! Many of us have fought the good fight for civil liberties and continue to do so, especially the RKBA. In Vietnam my life depended on my buddies, black, asian, hispanic, and white; and their's on me. We are one, young man.
I work for an aerospace company and have many colleagues who belong to one minority group or another. One of the things we have discovered about ourselves is how the media foments and promulgates racist stereotypes and culture. My friends and colleagues are concerned about the same things I am, making a good living, supporting a family, educating our children, and saving for the future. Education is the key that opens the door, that's for sure.
In addition, my family and I live in a "diverse" neighborhood of young and old, white and minority, mixed race families, and a few "gay" couples. We get together and have a block party each year with kids, dogs, booze, good food, and a lot of fun. The city supports this effort with the use of a huge barbecue grill delivered to the street. The fire department brings a pumper and lets the kids shoot water from the hose.
My advice, move when you can to a more rainbow colored neighborhood. Unless we live and work together, we will always be forced into social silos comforted only by our petty fears and prejudices. Values and character will out.
