Kimber Pro CDP and Glock 30

I own and love both kimbers and glocks. I've been fortunate enough to never have a problem with either one. I trying to decide between the two guns above (Pro CDP & 30). Aside from all other attributes how do they compare on accuracy? I've heard great stories of the G30's accuracy as well as the CDP's. Any first hand experience with both?

The closest two comparisons I can find are the G36 shooting close to 2" groups at 15 yards and the Kimber ULTRA CARRY shooting a best of 1.9" groups at 25 yards. This is with a barrel 3/4" shorter than the Glock.

Bet the accuracy of the Glock will be comparable to that Kimber. Also know that the Glock has ten or up to 13 round mags, is far more durable, reliable, cheaper, etc. But then again go with what you like the most.

Kimber makes some fine 1911 style guns. If accuracy is what you're after, get the Kimber for bullseye competitions.

But if you want a very accurate CCW .45 ACP without a hammer, then get the G30. good for IPSC, IDPA too.

Rent them and buy what you shoot the best but G30s are hard to find right now since Glock is producing the Glock 36.

timujin: I thought the Kimber's basic design came before Volkswagons. Now, would that not make them Model T's?

For the cost of a Kimber you could probably buy a G30 and a used VW!! :D

As for the Wilson/Baer, I'd love to have one but I lean toward Ayoob's idea of a $2500 .45...

"A used vehicle with a Glock G30 in the glove compartment." :D

I am not trying to start a fight, but if you are looking at these two guns you are not looking for a target gun. You seem to be looking for a concealable weapon. One of your choices is a little more than half the price of the other. If you use it in self-defense you will not be using a ransom rest. The difference between the two weapons in accuracy under these circumstances is not significant. It seems to me that it depends more on your budget and preference in style of weapon than accuracy. This is not meant as a wiseass response.

If the Kimber Costs twice as much then if you are going to CCW, The Kimber is twice as easy to conceal as the Glock.

Kimbers arent that much more expenive. Not when you compare a base model Kimber to a base model Glock. I mean a Glock. About the same price. Not Kimbers fault that they offer more expensive variations of their already superb pistol.

OK lets see easier to conceal.- No contest Kimber

More accurate.- No contest Kimber.

You can throw it in the mud, snow, sludge. Freeze it, bake it. Run over it with a tank and it still shoots. - No contest Glock ( Only because I have never seen a 1911 owner silly enough to ever let any one do this to there gun) :D They just shoot!

I have the G30 and a Kimb. Compact. The G30 is indestructible; but lacks the 1911 trigger - but as you own both 1911s and glocks you know that.

The G30 is great but for carry purposes it's real thick. It's thicker than the other glocks - if you have smaller hands you may have trouble shooting it as well. The 1911 is thin - and is a lot easier to suffer in IWB, and the handle is easier to hide - a lot easier if you put slim grips on it.

Choosing on these ergonomics alone the 1911 is better - for capacity and indestructibility and price yes the Glock.

Battler.

Battler's got it. These are both up close and personal guns - "nasal decongestants", if you will. ;) In that light, the most significant difference between the two is the size of the grip. And my hands are just too small for any .45 caliber Glock. :(

Kimber and Glock the same price????
What gun shows do you go to, and where are they???????

I went to the Ft. Meyers (FLA) gun show and was absolutely shocked by the Kimber prices!
The Glock line has finally stabilized, with prices holding steady, or even comming down a bit!

I am a 1911 nut. I carry a full size 1911. I live, sweat, breathe and dream of 1911s. With that said, get a Glock 36. The two guns you mentioned are bought "normally" for CCW purposes. With that in mind, the G36 is durable and thin enough for a great CCW gun. Plus the cost is much less then the CDP.

Keep in mind, if you EVER have to use a firearm in a defensive situation, chances are, you'll be firing at real close range. Therefore, the extra bit of accuracy from the CDP is not a factor.

That's just my two cents. Go with whatever feels right for you.
