Kimber Bolt Action Rifles

Did i say otherwise? I simply stated for the money i hope they shoot better than 1 MOA. I expect a cheapo 600$ remington to shoot better than 1 MOA given quality ammunition. Just as i would expect a 1000+ kimber to do the same.

You know what's funny/ironic is I got federal fusion 100 grain to pull this group out of my .243... I haven't come up with a hand load yet that mimics it (pretty close, but I'm going to try some different boolits, got them loaded just haven't shot yet), and I'll be darned if I'm gonna buy loaded stuff :) I'm perfectly happy with .75 MOA outa the gun as I'll not push it past 300 on deer anyways, but there is always that question if this next load would tighten it up just a little more.

My brother won a Kimber 30-06 (not sure which model) and I shot it. I thought it felt great, was smooth and had a great trigger. With a Nikon scope, I was able to shoot 1/4 MOA free-hand (100 yd range). I'd have bought it from him if he'd have been willing to sell it, even though I was (and still am) very happy with my Savage .243.

Id buy a Kimber in a hearbeat if I could find one around here. Ive actually never seen one in any of the local shops around here. (I did see some at a gun show for a premium maybe dishonest price) But if had the extra dough laying around and I came across one for a reasonable deal it would go home with me. Nothing is perfect. Everything has a few flaws. Im also a big fan of mausers and the clones.

Reynolds 357-thanks for your confidence.

I did shoot it that day, but it was about 10 years ago with not a lot of regular practice in the subsequent years and I admit luck was with me. I am not foolish enough to believe I could do that regularly, quickly or better than real competitors.

More than I have ever seen for sale at one time:

Kimber got their start sporterizing Swedish Mauser military rifles. They put a plastic stock on them and cut the barrel. I remember seeing a barrel full of them at Greentop Guns in the $200 range. They were chambered in 6.5 Swedish and were good entry level hunting rifles.

Kimber also gets credit for resuscitating the 1911 and making it as popular as it is today. You might say they started the 1911 mania that has overtaken the gun fraternity.

They are beautiful rifles, but my one and only experience shooting one was not good. It would string shots badly. If you cleaned it it would shoot the first one right on the money and and the second would deviate slightly, the third a bit more. By the fifth shot the group had opened up to 4 inches or so at 100 yards. I believe it had a slight flaw in the rifling and fouling caused it to get crazy. Needless to say, my friend who was looking at it didn't purchase it. I would not rule one out based on this lone experience, but that one did have issues. It sure was pretty though.

I have two Kimber .308's on opposite ends of their spectrum..

I have a Mountain Ascent .308 which is now their lightest gun which is a tad bit over 4lbs and comes with lightweight rings. Coupled with a 8oz Leupold scope and I have the easiest rifle to carry in the woods. It shoots great, but after a few on the range your shoulder may be a little sore.

Someone else stated it, Kimbers as well as any other ultra light rifle take time for people to learn to shoot. I have sold Kimber rifles for years, the only complains I ever had were a few guys saying they couldn't get consistent groups. I sent the rifles back to Kimber for the customers and they were returned with test targets with .5-.7inch groups.

My other Kimber .308 is their 8400 Advanced Tactical, and it is HEAVY, but a tack driver.

I have two Kimbers and i love them both. My primary hunting rifle is a Kimber M8400 long action in .300 win mag. I have had great sucsess with the 195gr hornady match ammo. with a BC of .550 and a MV of about 3070 out of my 26" barrel they are doing anywhere from .85 to .45 groups at 100 yards. thats with a 1 in 10 twist rate. I topped it with a Nightforce 5.5-22x56 NXS. The other is the advance tac in .308 which shoots like a dream. I just got this one about 2 weeks ago. Just for targets. Shot and cleaned the barrel for the first 20 then started shooting i would go about 40 shots before the accuracy was changing much. It will shot sub half moa off a rest. So two thumbs up from me. Think i will be changing the stock out however because i just dont like the McMillan stock they have on it.
