Kimber 1911's opinions?

Frontsight, I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience with their warranty and customer service. Mine was just the opposite. After I'd had my Gold Match for well over a year, I decided the trigger could be better. Called, and they said "send it in." Even though it was well out of warranty, they did a trigger job for nothing. And got it back to me in one week. Also called about the magazine for my Pro Carry a month later, and they said "send it in." They've treated me as well as RCBS has on my reloading equipment. And that is saying a lot.

I purchase a Kimber Classic stainless target and on the second trip out the slide locked up. I had a hard time getting it to move. I took it home and stripped it. It was well lubed but would not slide. I worked the slide back and forth until it freed up. I called Kimber and he suggested I use tooth paste as a lapping compound. I've used tooth paste before and it works great. I just don't trust my Kimber for carry. I'll stick with my Glock 30. I will say the Kimber is very accurate and pleasing to the eye. Maybe after about 300 rounds I'll start to trust it.

"I know many people love the FLGR but if John M Browning felt that the 1911 needed one he would have given it one."

I too like the look and feel of the Kimber and plan on getting either a Stainless Compact or a CDP Compact.
As for the barrel bushing...
I believe Henry Ford relied on a crank to start the Model A.
Does that mean it was a good enough design so that now that we cross into the 21st century your car/truck/SUV/van of choice should have one as well? ;)

I absolutely love my Kimber Custom Combat Carry Model. Its almost the same size as a Commander. Very high quality and superb fit and finish, zero malfunctions thus far. Its a keeper...
