Killing the mentally retarded should be stopped.

Well the title says it all. Not to make light of the subject-matter or anyone involved of course, but what kind of moron would use that as the title to an editorial??? Here's a couple of link's.

Yahoo, where I first saw the title. http://fullcoverage.yahoo.com/Full_Coverage/US/Texas_Executions

And the editorial assosciated with it. http://dallasnews.com/editorial/136056_texasexecution.html

Maybe it's just me, usually is, but that really pegged my WTF meter.

(Okay, I just realized there was an ongoing thread about the double executions that this post is related to. Had I seen it before I posted, I would have included this in that thread, but what's done is done. Apologies)

Anyone who wants to fail an IQ test can fail one. In our county, a guy has put off his murder trial for three years just by refusing to talk to his Public Defender. A person can be pretty stupid and still know right from wrong. Finally, that's why they have the insanity defense available. If the jury didn't buy it, neither do I.

Thanks anyway,

Perhaps Mr Cruz should be pardoned, released, and given...............a job at the Dallas Morning News.

On the news today his schister(lawyer) stated that his client should not receive the death penelty because people with mental retardation are more likely to talk with the police about their crime and more likely to admit to their crime.
The key point is that he commited the crime, but their bottom feeder belives that because his client is not as bright as the rest of us he should be excused. BULLSH*T!!!!
This is another example of people giving excuses for bad behavior.
Their President (not mine) Clinton is a prime example of how low some in society have gone.

First, we kill all the lawyers

The only one that got to me was the one who left his pecan pie uneaten as he was led to his execution so he could eat it later.
An apparent travesty of justice??

What is it they say? If you can't do the time......

Huh. I always thought everbody who could be classified in some type of minority group always sought equal opportunity.

From the Yahoo article

"The double execution is a far cry from Feb. 8, 1924, when Texas prison officials, taking over execution duties from the counties for the first time, inaugurated the electric chair in Huntsville by putting five inmates to death."

Ah. The good old days, when we didn't hear all this whining about how "my mother yelled at me when I was 5, so I'm not responsible" BS.

Chances are he knows how to use it.

He knew he did wrong. He expressed remorse for his actions. He knew it was wrong but he did it anyway.
He should die.

Ban on death penalty for the mentally retarded?

Geeze - they'd never get to fry another Democrat.

You want to see "death penalty" Bush-bashing watch some Geraldo Rivera to get your blood pumping - he's just blatantly awful - was talking tonight about the Texas Death Machine that's been churning out bodies for Bush's career or something.

I guess all the kid-killing child molesters will have to vote for someone who's more in tune with their "needs".

10, 20, 30 40, 50 and more,
My great Mr. Bush is runnin' up our score!

I'm very proud of Dubya. Texas is ahead.

This gut tested 63 when his lawyer set up the test. When the state had him tested several other times he kept getting in the mid 80's. Which isn't really that dumb. Guess he couldn't remember which questions to get wrong.

Geraldo Rivera never was a journalist and never will be. The biggest laugh for awhile was when Rivera sniffed at the guy who wrote the book alleging Hilary's anti-semitic insult to her staffer, because he was a "National Enquirer reporter."

The guy has submitted a couple of articles, sure, and the charge WAS pretty silly, but when Geraldo has to fall back on impugning your journalistic ethics and credibility, something is desperately wrong. It's as if they hired Jerry Springer to do a political talk show!

He was tested more then once.63 was his low score and 83 was his high score.60 and below is supposed to be retarted so they only use the low score of the three.

The point the Press is missing though: it is not a matter of IQ that determines a person's fitness to stand trial and receive punishment, it is determined whether that induhvidual knew their actions were wrong.

The convicted had admitted that he killed the young lady because he did not want to go to jail for rape. He eliminated a witness. He knew rape would be punished.

Send that fact to the Dallas Morn news and Mr. Rivera.

That dips..stick should read Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men".

It is truly sad, but somimes you just have to put a bad dog down. Wish it weren't so, but sometimes reality just sucks.

An IQ test taken on death row should be inverted.

I guarantee if it were to save MY a** I would get a ZERO. :)

IQ or knowing what youre doing is worng or not are two irrelevant factors. He commited a rather brutal act upon another human being. That is ALL that is relevant to the discussion at hand. The death penalty is not punishment, but rather proof positive that the moron in question will not be harming anyone else.

I wish people who murdered and raped would be removed from society and my tax expenses on a more regular and frequent basis. I have never understood why people stay in jail for years sometimes decades after all their appeals are up.
