After learning about the fluff and buff routine, I now routinely do as much of it as I can on any new gun I get.
To quote a couple of the gunsmiths in the KTOG group, what you're doing, quickly and more efficiently, is simply breaking the gun in. If you don't fluff and buff, you may have to shoot 300+ rounds to get the same level of smoothness. Then too, by sanding the cuts in the slide and smoothing other parts early on, you may postpone or almost stop some unwarranted wear.
Don't F&B if you like, but there are advantages.
