Keep or sell it

As said, if you'd prefer the cash (which I'd invest in inflation-proof commodity like ammo for the AR) then sell it if you don't foresee ever really having to go back to that arm/cartridge -- it is still a seller's market. If you don't care one bit about the dollars or know anyone who deserves it, keep it.

i say keep it !! i once had a Sako Vixen .222 Rem., sold it because she was key holing, i wish now i would have kept it and had it rebarrled to .223 Rem.

ronl

I have a rifle that has become a safe queen... Trouble is, she doesn't get taken out to dance much any more.

I had a custom AR upper built that has taken over pest control duties, and I really like the ability to take that quick second shot if necessary.

I am thinking about selling the old girl, but she is just too nice.

What would you do?

Sell her and buy more ammo for the AR

It ain't costing you a thing sitting in a safe. The thing about money is they print it everyday, fine guns like that they don't make too much anymore.

I sit on the porch with the rifle and a six pack of beer. After the beer is gone, I take the rifle out back to a big old knotted pine tree. Then I grab the rifle by the barrel and bash it against the tree until its a useless hunk of crap. Then I take it into the shop and put the barrel into a big vise and tighten her down. Then I take a hacksaw an saw through the bolt and the receiver. Next, I take a large ball-peen hammer and beat the barrel until its good and bent. After that, I toss what's left into an old wheel barrel. After the wheel barrel gets full of other odds and ends, I dump it into a trash hole that I dug with a little Komatsu PC35 mini-ex. When that fills up, I'll smooth it over and plant a few apple trees.

What the?! It would take a lot more than 6 beers to get me to do something so utterly pointless

But to the OP, my rule is don't sell anything. I say this now, but I've sold 3 guns in my life and thankfully don't miss any of them. One was ridiculously inaccurate, one was a revolver that jammed (and I wanted a semi) and a pistol that made your trigger finger sting after shooting it a couple times. I've never sold an old friend though. Keep it! If later on you still need to sell it, you can. Who knows, you may decided you want to have it rebarreled someday. Then you've got a "new" rifle with a bedded stock and adjusted trigger right from the get go!

just don't like guns hanging around without a purpose.

No such thing! Some of mine might get shot only once a year, but they all get shot, and I enjoy every one. Lots of milsurps, some old classics, trusted hunters, evil black rifles, and handguns, handguns, handguns. Love 'em all!

I would never sell a gun unless I really needed the money. If you do anything, see if your buddy wants it for a fair price. You could hand it down if you have any close relitives that are into guns or just leave it in the safe as money in the bank if you ever need it.
