Keep or sell it

I have a rifle that has become a safe queen. It is an older 700 BDL "Custom Deluxe" in .222 Remington. It is a beautiful rifle, a few dings here and there, but she is nice. It has been glass bedded and free floated, and the trigger is a very nice 2.5 lbs. She wears an excellent old Weaver K-10-1 that is in very nice shape and still does it's job very well. She has taken more than her fair share of varmints since I have owned her. Trouble is, she doesn't get taken out to dance much any more. I had a custom AR upper built that has taken over pest control duties, and I really like the ability to take that quick second shot if necessary. I am thinking about selling the old girl, but she is just too nice. What would you do?

Well....if I were you I would package that baby up all
nice and neat and send it to me.I promise to take
good care of her for you and I'll even let you have
visitation rights.....Lol John:eek::eek::eek:

Well if I were you I would sell it....................soooo.............how much do you want?

Just kidding, but I have been thinking about a .222.......

Seriously though, if you like it alot, and it functions well and shoots good, I guess it all comes down to if you need the money or not. A good .222 is getting kind of hard to find.

This is basic economics.

Would YOU be more pleased having the .222 sit in your safe or would YOU be more pleased with the net proceeds if you sold it?

I would not hold it hoping that it would appreciate.

Another way of looking at it, if you had the money in hand, would you buy it at that price if it showed up in the rack at your local gun shop?

Keep it. It sounds like the gun means something to you. You never know, you might start taking out old faithful again later on down the road and you'll regret selling it when you wanted to use it again. if its financial problems, then you do what you have to do, if not, keep it.

That would be a simple call for me!

What? What does it all mean?

I'll tell ya what I do with rifles when I can't decide if really need them:

I sit on the porch with the rifle and a six pack of beer. After the beer is gone, I take the rifle out back to a big old knotted pine tree. Then I grab the rifle by the barrel and bash it against the tree until its a useless hunk of crap. Then I take it into the shop and put the barrel into a big vise and tighten her down. Then I take a hacksaw an saw through the bolt and the receiver. Next, I take a large ball-peen hammer and beat the barrel until its good and bent. After that, I toss what's left into an old wheel barrel. After the wheel barrel gets full of other odds and ends, I dump it into a trash hole that I dug with a little Komatsu PC35 mini-ex. When that fills up, I'll smooth it over and plant a few apple trees.

I do not want to meet you when you are in a bad mood

Do what a friend of mine does when he sells a gun he really likes. He sells it to a friend and the agreement is if the friend ever sells it he gets first choice at buying it back. Every time he sells one he always wishes he had it back. I knoe as I have bought a couple from him and he did buy them back. I never made a nickle off him but I sure had a good time on the sell back.

Thanks for the input. I don't need to sell it, just don't like guns hanging around without a purpose. I may just put it on gunbroker. Checked there for general info and found NIB 700 BDL .222 going for around $900-$1000. I'd rate mine as 90-95% and it has the scope plus I'd sell the RCBS dies and around 200 pcs. of brass with it, that is if I do decide to sell. It is rather a hard call. I do have a good friend who really likes the rifle. Of course, he said I'd be a fool to sell it.

I never bought into the thought process of "cool", and the latest most common chamberings in order to place a value on a firearm.
But Then ...I like 297/.250, .255 Jeffery, & .300 Rook rifles & .450/400 Farquharsons!

My vote would be to keep it. Sounds like too nice of a rifle to sell and if you're like me, you will regret selling. I find it very hard to sell firearms. I like to keep what I have and just buy more:D! If you need the money then I completely understand.
