Kahr Problems

I recently purchased Kahr's new P 40 polymer pistol and have had nothing but problems. The gun shoots great, but the pin that holds the trigger in place "walks", as the Kahr technician termed it. I sent the gun to Kahr, they kept it five weeks and the gun still has the same problem. I've also noticed that an interior piece of the slide has broken. Has anyone else has problems with Kahr pistols? Any suggestions? I guess they just haven't figured polymer out yet.:(

Call 508-795-3919 and ask for "David", Kahr's production manager. Tell him your story, and that you sent it in once and etc.....

If you don't get TOP service out of him, I'd be real surprised!

For the record, I had the "no screw under the slide release" issue number 2 with my P9, which is striker bar getting shifted out of place and not igniting the round. Went through David, and my pistol came back apparently fixed, and with a polished feed ramp to boot :D

I've thought about trading my P9 for the P40 because I prefer the .40 to 9mm (personal preference, not an attack on the 9mm) but I think I should wait a year, like I guess I shoulda done with the P9!

Thanks for your reply! David was the individual that I spoke to when I began to wonder when I would get my pistol back. I thought five weeks was a little long to fix the problem, but David said the new Tommy Gun line has really shifted Kahr's focus. He made it sound like the pistol line was definitely taking a back seat. He was sincere and told me to speak with Sam Wada the VP of manufacturing to complain about the service. I sent Sam several emails and tried calling, but he never returned my messages. Finally, I've written a letter to Justin Moon (not that he will ever see it) to inform him of the service I've received. I don't think I'll ever buy another Kahr, should have stayed with Sig. Anyway, the gun is still falling apart and I'm not sure wherther to send it back or just have a gunsmith look at??

Bullitt, I have a P9 which has been to the factory twice for repair. The first time the slide was locking back prematurely and the trigger would occasionally need multiple pulls to release the striker, the second time the slide was locking back prematurely on almost every shot.

It SEEMS to be OK now, but I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to put enough rounds through it to really be sure.

I bought it because it was lightweight and Kahrs had a good reputation, but it's going to take a LOT of rounds with no failures before I trust it.

And it will take even more flawless operation - a LOT more - before I decide I like it.

I doubt they'll care, but I just sent an e-mail inviting Kahr customer service to view this thread, and do a search on other threads on this site. If you list them by date, you can see the sudden drastic change in owner attitudes regarding Kahr service.

I stopped short of reminding them what we unhappy gun owners did to S&W :)

Thanks to TFL and other sites similar (there are others like it, but only ONE TFL!) we are not in the dark anymore.

And the worst part is... you guys who've been around a while KNOW that I've been one of the biggest Kahr supporters on here.

The trigger pin on my P9 "walks" also.

I just push it back in but I guess I should have it looked at. I had a little problem with an answer on something from them but maybe I could have handled it better too. No problems with my MK9 so I`m not real unhappy.

Haven't had a problem with my P9.....(knock on wood...er...plastic...)

My problem with Kahr is they want $37.50 for a spare mag!!!!!! :eek:

Onslaught;

I apologize for the service you received. I am the senior Customer Service Rep from the factory. If there s anything that I can do to help restore your faith in the company please contact me. If you should have any concerns or questions in the future please give me a call. The turn around time right now is less than 2 weeks on repairs. In response to the comment that pistols were taking a back seat I would like to respond and let everyone know that it is not a back seat issue.
The last week and a half or so of the every month Kahr has designated for production. We are working on new pistols as well as the Auto Ordnance Line of Weapons. We have recently re-released the 1911 quite improved I might add.
None of our pistols take a back seat. Neither do any of our customers. Again I apologize for any unsatisfactory service you received and want to assure you that I will do anything I can to help you in the future if you should need assistance.

I really, REALLY, like my Kahr K9 E-nickle (and this coming from a guy who bleeds S&W blue). I was convinced to by one by the comments on the gun on this forum, in large part. That being said, I am equally convinced that the polymer framed guns are still having teething problems. I would love to see this problem solved and the introduction of the mythical plastic framed MK9.

Onslaught,

Thanks for that email, it seems you've really gotten their attention. I still don't think I'll send my Kahr in, but hopefully we've gained some headway. I believe I'll just have a local gunsmith do some polishing and whatever he can do to keep that pin in place.

38Mike,
Check out this link for Mags cheaper than $37.00. http://www.promagindustries.com/kahr.asp

Customer service

I just want to let everyone know that Kahr is still doing a fine customer service job. I e-mailed Kahr CS1 and mentioned that I'd heard they had a redesigned slimer slide release lever for the P9 (and lord knows it needs one) available and I was unhappy with my original style one. I got a new free slimmer one in the mail a week later. I like it. I still wish it was a small as the ones on a Glock but it is better and proves to me that Customer Service at Kahr is still excellent.

shiro

Thanks Kahr CS1

I'm glad to hear they treated you well, Shiro... You were one of the first here to tell me of your less than acceptable experience with Kahr.

I also have just begun another set of dealings with Kahr, and so far, it has been as pleasant as always.

My P9 was having problems kinda like HankB's... You have to pull the trigger two or three times for the bang. (and yes, I'm aware that Kahr isn't supposed to have 2nd strike capability). Sometimes you'd have to reset the striker.

Well, I talked to Kahr on Monday, and they want me to send the pistol back to them for REPLACEMENT. That's right, they had me send my favorite dealer's FFL so they could send him a brand new pistol for me. I don't think I was outa line, but I told 'em that since this was the pistol's third trip back, some sorta "extra" in the box when it comes back would be much appreciated.... I mentioned tritium sites as an example :D ...

I will be sure to come back here and post the time it takes, as well as the results of the swap.

Onslaught

P.S. - Shiro, I wish I had the guts to hack on my P9 like you did... the shorter grip SURE would be nice!

So far my P9 has held together just fine, but I ordered some spare parts back in February and still haven't received them. I e-mailed their CS rep and asked where my parts were, and she assured me they would ship by the end of the week. That was two weeks ago.

Onslaught;

I just wanted to let you know that Kahr has recently released the KPS9093. Which is a P9 Covert.
(chopped) so to speak. No need to fiddle with yours. You can purchase it from us.

Kahr CS1 (Michelle?)

Since you've already got my P9, and you're gonna swap it anyway, it wouldn't hurt my feelings any if it came back as a P9 Covert :) Hey, even better, a P40 :D !!! Talk about "extra"! I'd have Kahr tattoo'ed on me somewhere if ya did that! Honestly though, I think where the Covert is concerned, I'm just gonna hold my breath for the MP9!!!

Don't worry, I would never take a hack-saw to my pistol, but once again, hats off to Shiro who did, and did well! See for yourself...

DO NOT buy the Pro Mag mags for the K40. I had nothing but grief from the first one and its replacement. Save your money and get the real thing. Arizonza gun runners has them cheaper than the factory.
question for the factory man;
When is Kahr going to release Houge to sell Kahr grips to the public? I want a set for my MK 40 in checkered coco bolo and Kahr has not seen fit to provide them.:mad:

I have some Pro Mags but I only use them for practice.

They won`t hold open the slide on my P9 but will on my MK9. Go figure. The dealer I got the guns from got me a couple of factory mags for under $30 each.

I admire the response from Kahr but.....

I got burned when the K-9's came out. This is the rule not the exception for Kahr. For the money, they ask, there must be better consistency in quality.

The wheels came off my K-9 within the first 200 rounds of factory, S&B ammo------------------the extractor had to be replaced and the mag release went South. That puppy was sold as soon as it came back from the factory.

Not to rub salt in the wounds but Glock and Ruger have given me excellent service while Kahr's and Sigs have had to be sent back to the factory before the first 500 rounds were expended.

A Makarov has more consistency than a Kahr in my exprience. I have never seen a Mak go back but I can't tell you how many people I know who have had problems with Kahr's.

I emailed Kahr on Monday, because I decided to get the piece of junk fixed, because I can't sell it in the current state and was a little inspired by this thread. They have yet to reply. Its pretty frustrating. I went and shot the gun last Saturday and it wouldn't even cycle correctly, so I broke it down figuring its just not as good as Glock or Sig about shooting dirty. I cleaned it real well, place a little oil in there (never too much), slapped a new mag in and the same thing happened. After further inspection it occured to me that the slide rails, that are made into the polymer, were warped. I mean bad. They are bowed up and have all these little jagged edges where the gun was made so poorly that nothing lines up. This gun has less that 500 rounds through it. So now the gun just went from bad to worse and the wonderful customer service people at kahr don't seem to care. I will never own another one. I swear it.:mad:

I feel your pain.......

What really irks me is how the Gun rags laud praises on Kahr when in reality they are very unpredictable. Yet another reason why I won't buy a Kahr or a gun rag. I am truly sorry this happened to you. Again, not to rub salt in the wounds but it infuriates me how Kahr is way overpriced and they're not worth half of what they ask for em'.
